which spring to remove on carb?

I drove my GS all the way home from near Seattle, to Fargo ND last fall, about 1400 miles, with double springs on the linkage. Man, what a pain. Now that I'm getting ready to take her out of winter storage, I'm going to pull one spring to ease up the load on the 41 yr old leg. Which one to leave on the car? One is about 7/8" diameter, and thicker rod. The other is only about 9/16" diameter, and considerably thinner rod. Is the lighter weight spring sufficient to provide enough resistance to the gas pedal? Would one of these be close to the original spec? What do others run, or do you all use doubles? I'll probably try out the heavier duty spring first, and see how it feels. Any input?

David - I'd try just the heavier spring. Put some miles on it and see how it feels.

David, I don't know if you're going to the drags, but NHRA requires 2 springs for safety. I believe that most cars came with 2 from the factory as well. I always watch for the "correct" springs while cruising the junkyards. You probably have a case of someone finding what was available at the time. My brother's old truck had a throttle that felt more like a clutch pedal than a throttle, it bugged the Hell out of me.

No drags for this car Adam. (I can't afford breakage!) The clutch pedal analogy is perfect to describe how the gas pedal feels. Way too much force required for driving around town. I'll try the heavier spring first, and keep the other in the glove box just in case.
