I stilll say Merry Christmas but I have to rant a little.
Was having a dinner meeting at the Senior Center (yes I'm old)
some sweet little girls scouts came in and sang us some Christmas songs.
A little out of tune and I can forgive that, but also nice, they passed out
some home made Christmas cards. More that one said Marry Christmas and we had a hard time reading that. Now these girls are about 11 - 12 years old! I shudder at the dumbing down of our school systems!:Dou:

Mike,

I have friends who are of faiths different than mine, and some who say they have none at all, who still wish me a merry Christmas every year because they know me and know where my heart is and they want the best for me.

Hearing that from them makes appreciate them that much more.

Sounds sappy, but it is what it is.

I'm a Merry Christmas kind of guy although I'm not very religious either

I saw this on facebook the other day and got a kick out of it...

"Just so everyone knows, I have a CHRISTMAS TREE in my living room (not a holiday tree), my family are getting CHRISTMAS PRESENTS (not holiday gifts) and we will eat CHRISTMAS DINNER(not a holiday meal), and I will attend a CHRISTMAS PARTY (not a holiday party). I will also very cheerfully wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS! (not happy holidays). By the way, if you want to have a Happy Hanukah , by all means do, I respect that. If you want to have a Blessed Kwanzaa, I also respect that. I want to have a Merry Christmas, so I ask YOU to respect that!"

I say Merry Christmas just like I say one nation, under God when I say the Pledge of Allegiance. I am not really a religous person, just a little too red blooded and usually say these things to piss off the bleeding hearts; and because I love God and my country.

I hate it when people say "Happy Holidays" this time of year because it's more PC. They don't say it any other time of year.

Christians celebrate the birth of Christ this time of year.

It's Merry Christmas ! ! !

I find myself using both Merry Christmas and happy holidays for whatever reason. I dont think I consciously use one instead of the other purposely, its just kinda whatever rolls off the tongue. Although, its probably 80/20 that I say Merry Christmas.

And on that note, Merry Christmas to all my V8Buick friends!!:TU:

I say Merry Christmas. I am not religious, but visit relatives in Florida who are. When my wife and I are about to head home, they always pray that we have a safe trip. How could anyone possibly take offense at that? I don't see how any reasonable person could take offense when someone is wishing them well by saying "Merry Christmas." I'm not Jewish, but If someone wants to wish me Happy Hanakah (I probably murdered the spelling on that - and I grew up in a heavily Jewish community!), I am OK with it.

I am a Christian, and when I say Merry Christmas, I pray that it is as much of a blessing for you to hear it as it is for me to say it.

I am not offended if someone says Happy Holidays, that is their blessing and I pray that it is a blessing for them and for me to receive it. I am offended by the idea that someone based on where they work or for some other reason should not use a blessing such as Merry Christmas.

So I wish you all a very Merry Christmas everyone... and it is a blessing for me to say that to you, I pray it is a blessing that you receive.

Dear V-8 Buick members,

This thread kinda pushes one of my buttons. So I'll try to be as gentle as I be. For too many people, Christmas is nothing more than Santa Claus and kiddie stuff. Yet, there is a very adult issue that people avoid like the plague long before the phrase "Merry Christmas" has degraded into "Happy Holidays."

Christmas is supposed to be the celebration of the birth of our very instrument of salvation. Because of a unique moment in space and time, we live in a world that is very different than if Jesus wasn't born. Even for those who aren't religious, it is hard to ignore how much of human civilization and humanity has some root in Christian teachings.

That very gift to humanity was horribly and brutally crushed on Good Friday. Christmas is the start of Jesus's journey to that utter rejection by all the world he knew. To the world that Jesus actually lived in - he failed. If Jesus were to come back as a man today - would he succeed? Would he even be noticed?

For all of us, Christmas should be a bittersweet occasion. Our world is full of problems we do not know how to solve. The story of Jesus is (above all else) a lesson about the worst of human problems coming from within. With all the power to move heaven and earth, Jesus couldn't save his own people. If he couldn't save them then - can he save us now? If not, exactly what are we celebrating?

Sorry, but these things need to be said. Salvation is anything but a sure thing.

Cheers, Edouard

I used to be a little flexible - until all these groups starting it.
Its Christmas that we are celebrating - If you want a happy holiday you can have it in the 26/27th and work for regular pay on the 24/25th - but lots want it both ways. I heard on the radio today the happy holiday people want to ban Rudolph - the song and show because it promotes bulling - come on let us be proud Christens 1 day a year a least. -- the world hasn't gotten any better since we started bowing to this kind stuff - We used say the a prayer in school now that wrong - we used to sing god save the Queen now tha wrong -- Why is it the PC world are we not allowed to celebrate our beliefs - while being lenient towards others -- The rant of WASP Redneck -and proud of it - who spent 30 years in the service of my country was born on and loves Christmas.

So from Christ our Lord -Mel Gibson - Santa - Toby Keith - Rudolph - Gene Autry and I

Recently on separate occasions two of my Jewish friends wished me a Merry Christmas. Take from that what you will.

When it comes to "Happy Holidays" ; the word is derived from "Holy Days". So, I don't see anything offensive with "Happy Holidays".

Similarly ; "Xmas" can touch off some buttons. But, when you think about "X" is Greek for "Chi" , as in Christ, perhaps it's not leaving anything out, after all.

So, when some says, "Happy Holidays" or writes Christmas as "Xmas". Ask yourself, "what would Jesus do?"

I work in Building maintenance for School District and they are so

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year. Now who knows what movie this comes from, and who uttered those words.

Seriously, I grew up in with religion as a small part of my formative years. I have since eschewed those tenets, but retained the "Merry Christmas" part, although it could just as easily be Merry Chrissmas instead. There is no other significance for me.

For those who I know celebrate different beliefs, I will try to greet them accordingly.

What ever happened to "Season's Greetings"? :Do No:

We say "Vrolijk kerstfeest" and that's the same as "Merry christmas".

I never thought of christmas as a religious thing, for most people it means two fully paid days off (if it's not during the weekend).

Christmas in the Netherlands is on the 25th & 26th of December, referred to as "first christmas day" and "second christmas day".

I don't give a damn either way. It has roots in a paganisim as well as christianity and like most things continues to evolve and change with the times. Originally outlawed by the puritans and in fact was a normal working day for government of all things as "recently" as 250 years ago.

War on Christmas? How about slow news day! If you follow the news, you know the same story has been coming up every December for at least the last 20 years.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, X-mas, Christmas tree, holiday tree, Holy Days, whatever, I actually have more important things to worry about.

Good thread! I like how those who don't follow the season for the Christian reason aren't bothered by it either. It just shows how the real reason behind the sensorship of Christ has nothing to do with his teaching, but everything to do with money making lawsuits and the like. As far as being rejected and hated for proclaiming his name.... well.... thats prophecy fulfillment! Merry Christmas:TU:

Due to recent family issues here at home I have decided not to do Christmas here. I know its the celebration of the birth of Jesus and when the day comes I will say a birthday prayer. My beef is the commercialism of the holiday. I cringe whenever the TV say "BUY YOUR LOVED ONE" this or that just because its Christmas. People are expected to go into debt buying gifts for people that they really don't care about and probably don't care for them. Call me Grinch if you like, I don't mind.
In line with the thread I personally do not mind Merry Christmas . Happy Holiday or Seasons Greetings. What does get my goat is when people write Merry Xmas. Theres no X in Christ.

Just think of the backlash if they called the Menorah a "Holiday candle holder"!

I generally say Merry Christmas unless I know the person, (usually a customer) is of a different faith. Then I will say Happy Holidays.
This year the company I work for went with Merry Christmas on the company card, but did print a few Happy Holiday and Happy New Year cards for specific customers.
