View Full Version : Front Cover Finishing

I have one of your front covers for the Big Block. I have been considering whether I can put any of the "High Tech" coatings on it/in it. Like the aluminum/ceramic coatings or maybe just a powder coat.

I am most concerned about the oil pump cavity. I'm sure it would need to not receive any such coating...right? But how about a Dry-Film-Lubricant coating? Would that be beneficial for the longevity of the oil pump or would it mess up the clearances? The F/C is so far unused, but am planning to install it in the near future and would like to protect it as much as possible before installing it for the first time.

I know you guys are closed right now for the Holiday, so it might take a while for a response.

I've never heard of anyone coating the inside of the oil pump cavity, but I wouldn't recommend it just in case it messes with the tolerances we have in place. There's no need really, unless something is wrong there wont be any significant wear to the timing cover.

Just a thought I had...didn't think it would work.

I'm sure powder coating would be okay?...but was a little concerned about the polishing process of the ceramic/aluminum coatings messing something up. I know either way I would have to remove the seal.
