I was cleaning up the 14" rims on my 68 GS350, and noted the codes stamped on the rears. Do they mean anything in particular? Like what year car they came from?

codes:

6 19 WO

8 27 WJ

David Gramlow,
Yes the codes can tell the year they are from, but I don't think you listed all the information needed to decipher them. Might need to look closer, or post a picture.

Duane, I'll try to take a couple pics this week. The back side of the rims is really a mess. I need to find some kind of cleaner to use on them. Sorry I forgot to post, they are the V2 chrome wheels.

David Gramlow,
On some of the 70 rims they have numbers stamped in the backside outer lip and are like this, "M4 11 21 WG", with a number 9 stamped beneath the "M4". Thats the kind of thing you are looking for. Let me know what you find. Might make up an article for the newsletter to decode these. Thanks.

codes stamped on the outer lip or bead ring are
date codes in the form mm dd yy especially for 70-72. there are also, as u know, codes stamped
on the drop centre of the rim and these codes
identify disk brake and non-disk brake applications.

I know one of the rears had "M0" in very small letters. The 0 is underneath the M. The back side of these rims looked like they haven't been cleaned in 10 years. Fortunately, the chrome side is almost like new :TU: . I'll have to do a thorough search for codes after I can get them all cleaned up good. Any particular cleaners recommended for the back sides? The outside chrome is very nice, although I think the black will need a paint job next winter.

Thought I'd bring this to the top again, I will be going 'Wheel shopping' at the local swap meet next weekend. What are the codes for 14" disc brake rims??

Thanks,

David Gramlow,
The "0" would be the "calander" year (Not Model Year) that the wheel was manufactured in. Probably 1970 in this case. With a date code of 6 19 (June 19) that would make the rim from a very late 1970 or very early 1971 car.
