I'm getting a high flow electric fuel pump for my dual quad riv.

I'm gonna set pressure at the carbs at 4.5 lbs to start with.

the question I have is the best way to route the return line. I can route it back before, at, or after the regulator. The one after the regulator would be after the pressure gauge so I don't know if that would mess things up at the carb.

Any thoughts on which is best?

Jason,

If you are going to run a return line, I would run it at the regulator, but I don't see why you would run a return line if you have a good pump and regulator. I have been running a Holley "Blue" pump for about 8 years and so long as it runs through the regulator, it gives no problems. I would check with the pump manufacturer before spending the time/effort to install return lines.

I run my pump at about 6.5 pounds at idle. I also had a difficult time getting my carbs to idle with the little cam I run. I ended up installing an idle speed adjusting screw like most other AFB's have to set my throttle blades.

good luck with your dilemma.

Jason, I'd have to agree with DQ55. I've been running Holley electric pumps (red, blue & black) on my boat. It has a blown 509 Chebby (gasp). Sorry. Anyway If I run the Holley blue or black I have to run a return line to the tanks only because of the extra heat in the boats engine compartment and the extended idle time. When I run it off idle, I have no problems, but idle through the channel at Havasu for 30 minutes and it heats up and quits. Let it cool and it's back in business. I can run a Holley red pump which isn't as powerful and it never dies regardless of idle. But it won't maintain good pressure during a 100 mph lake run :pp I ran a Holley blue for years on my old GS set up with no problems.

First of all, what kind of pump/regulator are you running?
