51 Buick Special...HELP!

Hey!! I just got myself a 51 Buick Special and am trying to learn about this "old stuff". As far as I can tell it's got a Dyanflow trans and 263 "Fireball" eight. First things I plan to do are- upgrade to disc brakes, 12 volt, and driveshaft w/u-joints. I'm kinda hoping to find some old speed parts for this engine but so far am striking out. Any suggestions?

You need to join the nailhead group on yahoo. Lots of early info there. Also join the Buick Club of America. They have technival advisors you can contact about specific years. They are at

I see that you are located in Everett. There is a large group of Buick enthusiasts that meets in Marysville at the Golden Corral restaurant on State Avenue, 4th Tuesday evening of every month.

We have many folks who are highly knowledgeable about the straight-8 era cars. We had a number of folks with the straight-8's just complete the 5,000-mile round trip from Seattle to the Buick Centennial in Flint, Michigan, so these are people who DRIVE their cars. You may find that you will not need to make as many modifications as you think in order to make your Buick a very roadable car.

Please come check us out. Next meeting is Tuesday, September 23. If the weather's nice, you'll see a parking lot full of vintage Buicks.

There is one fellow with a '42 Special, but that's different from a Limited. Your '42 Limiteds are exceedingly rare and -- in my view -- highly desirable cars.

We do have owners of a '40 and a '41 Limited, who might be helpful. Please let me know if you need any specific information.
