Does anyone make a repro of the GS hood? I'd imagine it would be fiberglass. I'd sure be interested in one. Does anyone know anything about the hood scoops that poston sells? can use them to convert a non-GS hood? Thanks

do you think that the fiberglass front fenders would look terrible on a GS that you would use for street use? would anyone know that they were fiberglass (if they did not touch them)? with no one making steel replacements, i wonder if this would be a logical alternative.

I have had My VFN fiberglass bolt on GS hood on my 72 since 99. It was daily driven. I have a one issue with the VFN hood. Here is the problem I have had. The hood Latch mounting area is raw fiberglass. With time the hood shakes and the metal latch will cut through the fiberglass and it will pop up when driving unexpectedly and catch the second latch (safety catch). I had to install metal covers over the top of the fiberglass lips (both sides) to insure it would not happen again. Other than that propblem it has been a nice hood, :TU:

I have heard lots of good things about those US Body hoods.

I have bought 3 US Body hoods. No problems. Will require some trimming and/or filing for a perfect fit. I went to their factory and they make all kinds of glass parts. When installing a GS glass hood, make sure you install lighter hinge springs. I like to use 75-79 Jeep Wagoneer springs. They look like stock and work great. As for the hood latch set-up, cut out the factory steel set-up from a junk Skylark hood and bolt into the glass hood. Very easy to do.

I did not realize that a 1969 hood was offered. I liked the T's too!

Do any of these hoods have the strip molded on that a '72 has on the nose or a place to attach one? None of the pictures look like they do but I can't tell for sure. Thanks

I donated a GS hood to The Parts Place about 3 years back, so they (an unnamed company in China) would have a pattern to work from. I was promised a great deal on one of the first hoods finished. I've been in contact on and off for the past 3 years and no progress. I believe the project is shelved until better economic times are upon us, (if that ever happens!).

Steve, I saw you donated the hood and so I asked Shane about just doing the hood scoop area (as the hood thingy doesn't seem to be happeining) so it could be grafted onto a lark hood (like we did with mine) but he says there building the whole hood or nothin, so....maybe its nothin?

I have since bought a US Body Source 4" Cowl Hood. It took my body guy 30 hours to fit it. Bought a reinforced hood since I drive it on the street, however, the rear bracing wouldn't clear the cowl area on the car. US Body Source didn't seem to care, said I had bought it from a second source. It was there authorized after hours number (since they don't answer the phone after 1:00 Eastern time) and they made it and shipped it. But with all the money in it, it does look good. Just a lot of fitment issues. My pictures the body shop took will not open as I tried to include pictures of how it looks. Only picture that is a fairly good view has me standing beside the car and no one wants to see me. After all, it's all about the cars.

It's all good...You were having fun driving and I was trying to make some scratch vending, just didn't cross paths.
Hopefully you can make the picnic again this year. Geven A. and Don "Mc" should be there too. :TU:

Does using the fiberglass hood on a buick reduce the value of the car? Are they very durable, long lasting? I have a 72 skylark custom (non gs) But I would like to make it a GS clone. I am having a hard time steel hoods.

My real GS has a fiberglass hood. and it bugs the ass of me! Just because its supposed to be steel. I dont know the story of how it came to be.
But as you say, finding a steel hood that's local and worth fixing is rare. I just cant pay shipping on a hood.
But the fiberglass one is nice though, and no one at a show has ever said anything about.
I do have a steel one though that was in a rear-end accident - lots of rust on the front lip too. Got it for $20 at a 1/2 price weekend at a local junk yard.
But the scoops are solid. I plan to swap them into a skylark hood, but finding a nice one of those is proving difficult too..

actually are the 70 - 72 gs hoods the same size? Are they all universal?

Yes I believe all GS hoods are the same. Just the chrome lip is different.
