I'm looking at a car with these numbers. Is it real? If so it's one of only 51 4 speed cars.
Thanks

That is a 1971 GS VIN, yes.

Can anyone tell me what was included in the GS350 package in 1971 or where I might find out?
Thanks

Harvey, have you contacted the owner of this car? What specifics are you looking for. My car has very few options, but I have seen them loaded to the gills as well.

Hi Chris,
Yes I have. It seems to be fairly bare with ps, ps, radio and possi rear end. I was wondering more about what came with the GS 350 option. Was it just the grille and hood or were there other items you got when ordering the GS 350 package?
Thanks
Harvey

You also got a different standard rear gear in 1971 between the two models. Posi was an option on both models.

Same TH350 trans, same 350-4bbl (dual exhaust was standard on the GS350 and an option on the Skylark), different air cleaner, and various emblems.

I don't know about interior patterns :Do No:

You would have gotten "GS"grille & hood scoops, grille, fender, deck lid, emblems, inside there are GS emblems on the door panels with GS patterns. Everything else was just an option.:)

Emblems on the interior were optional as well and came as part of a package that included woodgrained dash, custom seats, sail panel lights and carpet on the doors. These items, I believe after looking at the order form, were included when you selected either a split(notchback) bench or bucket seats.

Mine doesn't have any of this....just a plain std. vinyl interior, same as a base Skylark. Not even a GS badge. Just didn't want anyone to think they weren't looking at a real GS if the interior had no identification.

It might help to know that all GS' were 43437(cpe.) or 43467(conv) model # in '71. There was no GS350 package officially. The 350 was the std. engine and the 455 was an option. The 455 cars weren't a separate line like they were in '70.

When comparing the GS to the Skylark, other than the hood, grill, badges and air cleaner, there isn't much difference until you start adding options.

Ouch.. A GS is a Skylark with a GS hood, air cleaner, grille. and emblems.

My recollection is that the "all show, no go" started later than that.

Hi Mike,
I'm not sure what you mean by this??

I said "until you start adding options". If you have a 350 car, there isn't much difference. If you happen to have a 455, which wasn't available in a Skylark, then there is a world of difference!:spank: At least in '71 and '72. In '70, there was a hi-compression engine in the GS350, but this wasn't available in '71 or '72.

I'm not slamming the '71 GS in any way. Just comparing equipment and options, that's all.:beer

Hi All,
Mike and his father in law are looking at this car tomorrow. He's going to send me a bunch of photos and his opinion on the car. We will have something to get our "teeth into" after we see the results of Mikes investigation. Stay tuned!
Thanks for all of your help so far.
Cheers

Harvey,

Just curious what you found out about the car.

Mike did a great job in checking the car out. The car is a repaint, now red, supposed to be white. Needs trunk floor replaced (rusty) and some of the front seat seams restictched. Other than that Mike said the car looked good, sounded good and drove good. The owner is asking 13,500, told me he would take 12,000. Based on the above and the fact that it is a 350 and on a couple of other board members opinions I offered him 8,000. He said he wouldn't even consider it. Anyone else have any opinions on value???
Thanks

Harvey,

What is the definition of "looks good"? Is that good enough to eat off of, good enough to take to a show, good enough to win a show, or ?

Can you post some pics of the inside, engine, etc.?

I think $8K is fair. The only thing show quality is the exterior. Nasty under hood, look how faded that kick panel is, etc.
Walk away with a clear conscience.

I agree. If the interior and engine compartment were redone, his asking price would probably be reasonable. But not in it's current condition.

I looked at a 71 GS 350/4 speed in 1991 that was for sale in Goderich, Ontario. It was a one owner car and it was as plain as the one you are looking at- except it was a bronze color with similar interior. It even had the Skylark hubcaps. The owner was a minister and told me he was embarassed by the Hurst shifter!
Oh, BTW-he was asking $6500 for the car and I could only afford $4000. About a month later AFTER I bought a 66 Mustang he called me and said I could have the car for $4000! :Dou:

I bet the car is still for sale. $13k is for a show worthy car.
With the current condition, I bet a lot more will need replacing such as w-strip, bushings, ball joints, etc. Looks like a low option car, non-ac. He will have it for a while.

The car sold two weeks ago. The buyer was from Dallas. I don't know what he got for it though.

Lou,

That is not correct. In 1971 (only) all GS' were identified by a "34". So a 43467 car could be a GS 350 or GS 455 (with or without Stage 1).

Check here (http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/buick-gs/buick-gs-specs.shtml#VIN) for more info on VIN's.

Sounds like you have a neat car!

9 four speed Stage 1's is correct, Here (http://www.buickperformance.com/GSprod.htm) are production numbers for GS'.

I don't know, if its real 71 GS 350 four speed that is a pretty neat car.....spend 800.00 on the interior(new seat and door panels), some clean up under the hood and it would be a pretty smokin car. Its even got the correct grille...

These cars are worth whatever the market will bring. 13K seems a bit high for that condition, but not unreasonable. Body looks nice, and 1 of 51!!
