Variable voltage alternators?

I seem to remember a while back seeing an article in one of the car mags on a variable-voltage alternator- this was a 1-wire alternator that had a small potentiometer in the back that you could use to adjust the voltage setting of the voltage regulator.

Has anyone used these on an old-style (V8) electrical system? Is this a direct bolt-in for a 1-wire alternator? Any other opinions?

there is a regulator that replaces the existing one on the delso si alternator,that sits on the outside of the unit,with a pointiometer that is accesable without pulling the unit. i can sell you one (regulator with instructions)for $32.00 +shipping.this fits the delco 10-12-17 SI units with built in regulator,i have sold a few with no problems,however do NOT turn these all the way up,as they can hit 17+ volts.when you set the voltage,make sure the battery is fully charged & alternator amperage is at a minimum. email me if you want one,or more info.:TU:
