The paint code on the cowl tag says CBB1. It is really a little lighter than the
picture shows. It has been repainted with a color that almost matches the original
that is still on the on the inside of the trunk lid. But it has a little metallic
in it now and it slightly bluer because it really reacts to different light conditions. More light, more blue.
sometimes almost looks gray. Haven't found any paint info from previous owners who
did the paint. Would like to know myself so I can get some touch up to match. I call it smokey blue or steel medium blue.

That's a beauty. I don't know whether to congratulate you more on putting together another one or knowing it was really cool in the first place. Probably both. Have fun with it. Let me know if that baby ever needs a new home.

Hey Roger,
As a proud owner of a '56 I have to say that Your car is really something "Special" :TU:
What color is the car Painted? :Do No:
What kind of Wheel Covers are on your car?
In any event that Special of Yours is one Sweet Ride.

Don't know what Buick called it. Have on order a Buick paint chip sheet to find out.
Blue gray? Changes with light conditions. Does really compliment the chrome.
The wheels are some sort of after market real wires with coker tires. They also
seem to compliment the color.
Do you have your 56 in this section?
Finally got a paint chart. Seems it is Cadet Blue Irid. (iridescent?)

Theres a lot of nice wheels on this post. Mine is a 53 Roadmaster not appreciated by the purists but its a lot of fun. The body sits on a 67 Sportwagon frame. Its has a 455 Buick engine with TA STG2 heads TA SP1 intake TA shorty headers TA 284-88H cam KB pistons and a TQ 850 carb, 200 4R tranny and a 12 bolt Chevy differential with 3.55 gears and an Eaton Posi.
Have had it running for a couple of months, still needs a little but its a cruiser
I really enjoy reading about all the nice cars on this web site.....Bob H.

I bet you surprise a few people with that drive train. No doubt you improved the
handling with a 24 year newer frame and suspension. How much did you have to do
to adapt the body to the frame? Was always intimidated by that and seems like a lot
of work. Looks like the wheel base turned out to match real good. Not a job for an
amatuer. I had a 53 black Super 2 dr ht back in the sixties. Still think 53s are good
looking in two door ht bodies.

I had a shop up in Washington do the frame swap because i'm not a welder, but if you look under the car it doesn't look to complicated. I haven't had a chance to surprise anyone yet but I think it will. Believe it or not it only weighs 3900lbs. Getting rid of the old x member frame lightened it up quite a bit. I like your 56 they are a nice car. Had a Special and a Century back in the 60s.........Take Care..........Bob H.

I own a 1978 Buick Le Sabre Sport Coupe Turbo with 77k miles on it. It was my grandparents, they bought it new! It is in very good shape with not one spot of rust any where! The car has never seen snow and very little rain. It also still has the original twisty shocks on it. The only thing it needs is a headliner, it is finally falling down. I only put on about 200 miles a year now. The car runs great!!!

I love the the mid to late 50's rides. But I like the early to mid 60's for the power! I know the Mid to late 50's had power but not as big as the 60's. I said it before on this Board that I think the Next Buick I get will be a 56 or 57, If I am right they had the portholes on the front fenders?? and the Big Grinning Grille!

There are some very nice cars on this thread,I keep coming back just to look at the pictures, often.I'll say that Bob's '53 two toned yellow is one classic cruiser. The body line from the front peak of the fender to the rearmost point on the quarter is just a little more pronounced than in the Cadillacs from those years.Cadillac's line is considered to be one of the most beautiful ever and is often compared to a woman's outline while resting on her side :TU: .I've never noticed the Buick's line until I saw that picture,I guess that's the "full" version  .Any more pictures Bob?HF

I agree about the nice lines of the 53s. Ebay link below is for a black 2 dr ht
exactly like the one I had in the 60s. Needs a lot of work but would look really
nice I think. If I wasn't already car poor would consider it.

A question about a '57 Special. Looking at one (2dr) today and it didn't have the chome "Special" (Century, Roadmaster, Rivera) that most '55-'56-'57 Buicks have located on the side behind the drivers door. A friend says the '57 Special didn't have that located there, but I wonder? Should there be a chromed "Special" located at that location or not? Was told this car was stock by the owner. Thanks. Jim

How do you post a picture of your car with a 3.5 floppy Disc
65WILDKAT
03-13-2006, 04:07 PM
I would put the 3.5 FLOPPY DISC on the hood of the car and then take the picture of the two of them together unless the disc and the car are the same color I would put it next to it   Just kidding I couldn't pass it up!
You are going to have to down load the picture of the car to the disc and then put the picture on your desk top and then put it on the Thread, I would think??? :Do No:

Wow, wicked cool Post coupe!
If its a 401 you should be able to pick up a manifold 4bbl for a decent price. Its the Dual Quad ones that are precious.

03-20-2006, 02:30 PM
Thanks guys. I'll check Ebay now. Those rims are regular Chevy ralleys painted body color with blank Chevy style disc brake center caps (I made a Buick "emblem" on my computer and had a local sign shop output the vinyl die cut decal for the centers). I would have used my stock steel wheels, but couldn't find any poverty caps to go with them (I do still have the full wheel covers). I was going for a Pontiac 421 Super Duty/409 Bel Air type of look.
I swap them out with a set of Torq Thrusts whenever I feel like a change.
It's all stock with a 364 with a 2 bbl. I wish it was a 401 if only for the better selection of performance parts available. But this engine is as tight as a drum and runs great - and with the 2.5" Flowmaster dual exhaust it sounds great. Just a few little things left to do and it should be done. I have a blast driving it on the weekends.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums, been looking for people who love their Buicks as much as I do, can't understand why it took me so long to find this site. I found my baby, a 1975 Buick Apollo, 4 door, white w/ red interior, bench seats front and back, and, oddly enough, an Oldsmobile 350 V8. The VIN, as I have finally decoded it with a 1975 service manual, specifies the car as originally having a 260 :(, so much for all original. But at least now I know. Anyways, I found her for $750 CDN outside of Ottawa, ON, in good shape, rust around the fenders, but the underside has been undercoated and greased so much, it must be over an inch thick. Been driven for almost 30 years around Ottawa by a lady, until it was sold to the junkyard in '03, I picked her up in mid '04.
I will take some smaller pics than what I have of the Apollo, and when I manage to rescue it from storage, I will post pics of the only car of my late Grandfather's collection (over 30 vehicles, from the 1920's to the 1960s) that I could keep away from the vultures, a 1919 McLaughlin-Buick, in near-mint condition, she is a sight to behold.

1958 buick special 2 door, 364 nailhead 2 spd. My grandfather bought it in 69 with just over 40000 miles, he got it restored in the 80s and has had only 200 miles put on it since its frame up resto. I got it 3 years ago and drove it form bc to saskachewan 14 hours 80 miles per hour, pured like a kitten, staight as a arrow, got looks the whole wat. THe only delays were ansering questions as I filed up. Unfortunatly it developed a small knock last year, no cash to get parts or even the time to rip it apart. So in the garage it sits.
I jumped the gun and bought a 500 cu caddy engine and a T400 and 9 inch lincon diff. I only founf this site recently and found that maybe I can keep it origonal. For such a good group of buick people feels like I've got a chance. Cheers

Went to an auction to look, watch, and get ready to find a project in 2007. Oops. came home with 53 4 dr. nail head.
Oops? well. maybe not.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I went to an auction because a couple of old Hudsons were listed. Surprise, maybe 35 cars and trucks. 52 Chevy went for twice my bid. 38Ford panel street rod in show shape at about 10 times my budget. Oops.. I own a 53 Buick, expected a straight 8. A little reading and I find it is a Nail Head. Body straight, with a little black paint left. needs Front floor panels boths sides, rear seat, heater, which is why my first impression was "basketcase" Then I read about nail heads, and saw some "before" pics and this 53 is mostly intact. One small wringkle in front right fender, others all straight. I think all chrome is there. All four pieces of the Jack. Rear arm rest intact with original cloth, and clean. Not running.
Gotta decide. sell now or make a beautiful car out of it?
Help me learn what I have: 1953 MOD 52, Style No 53-4819, Trim No 52 Paint No 51-1 Bill of sale says ID# 53-4518. What's all that mean in English?

Hello !! I am a new guy to this site. I currently have a 1955 Super it's on pretty decent shape the guy that appraised it said it was a three or something to that fact. I jumped right in with driving and found that I have generator problems as of now. Took it apart cleaned the core with electro solvent and reset the brushes, changed out what looked to be the original ground wire and replaced the power cable that had marine fittings on them. started it up and it showed that it was charging however after a few days it went dead again. Last owner said that he had indeed polarized it. Try to have it bench checked however folks in these parts ask what is a generator. The only thing left that I can think of is the wire harness, OR the Core from inside the Generator. Any ideas or ways to check generator, voltage regulator, wire harness OR a place that I can purchase rebuild parts ?? Thanks for your time in advance.

A while back I said that a 500 caddy would be going in instead of rebuilding the origonal 364. All thats changed and after carful research, the block and heads are in the machine shop for some light work. Eelco is supplying the parts plus a couple of dress up goodies to top it off. Parts should be here any day now, cant wait to drive her again.
Currently waiting to hear back about a 56 buick roadmaster, 40 miles, 322 loaded, 4 door, been sitting a garage for a long time. Supposed to be mint, this coming froma guy that works at a salvage yard and really talks about his pontiac 6000 like its rolling gold. So we'll se what happens.

It had been stored for more than 15 years before i got it.
After fixing up some minor problems it runs great and i drive it whenever the sun comes out.
And yes, with the new radials it can easily go 100mph and still feels comfortable. Not bad for a 50 year old car.

NVR2Fast, Your Wagon is beautiful! I love the wagons that Buick put out in the Mid to late 50's! It is a shame that so many Wagons met the CRUSHER!

Mine is a 1955 Buick Special 4DR I named Lucille. I posted a new thread with pics titles "Lucille". I've had her since '02 but haven't done as much work on her as I would have liked the past couple years due to work and other things going on in my life. I plan on doing a lot more this year though.

My first classic Bquick is a 65 Skylark GS which I fully restored with 2-4bbl, 4 speed, 390 posi, disc brakes, rewired, etc to replace the one I had as a stupid kid and let get away. It has a parts car, a 65 Skylark, running and together with a few slightly rusty parts from the GS.
My other classic Buick is a '34 56S Coupe which I recently bought after years of searching for an origonal and complete car. It needs restoration but is still beautiful to me, just love that body style.

1963 Riviera with 37,000 miles. Original leather interior in almost perfect condition (just a few scratches on the center console) and one re-spray on the body. Judging from the lack of rust on the frame and body and most of the original front steering components that I replaced (ball joints and tie rods), I really do believe this thing has just 37,000 miles on it.

I'm sure loving the car, but some of the factory setups leave much to be desired.. like the 30 feet of heater hose that comes with the thing.. ha! Oh we're rippin' and strippin'! :Brow:

Currently the fleet consists of a 1946 Buick Super sedan, numbers matching, all original never been touched car, and a '66 Electra convertible. The '46 still wears it's original paint, and the motor hasn't ever come apart except for the valve cover when I checked the valve lash. (I know the motor has never been apart because of all the gunk inside of it!) Next year I'm going to have to make a decision as to whether I fully restore it or just try and maintain it but not drive it anymore. The Electra is good shape, has a freshly rebuilt drivetrain, and is my summer car. It's going to need some cosmetics to complete, afterwhich I'd like to sell it and try and find a nice '59 Invicta or Electra convertible.

I think that my name on here says it all. I have a 67 GS 340. Hope to expand the fleet before too long. I've had several other cool cars over the years, but I was too young to be able to afford to keep them back in those days. When you make next to nothing, can't afford repairs, and an alternator is out of your budget, you have to make choices that you regret. NOW though, I can afford to repair, restore, and don't have to depend on any one vehicle.

#2 is my 1955 Special 2 door hardtop which I boughy off of a friend of mine in 1995. I restored this car to original. It has 65,000 miles.
#3 is a 1962 Invicta convertible which I've had for 4 years.
And last is my 1965 Wildcat Custom convertible which I've had since 1995 and I'm the second owner. I'm in the middle of restoring this one.

I had 11 years ago 1965 Electra Conv. I kept it 5 five years and i sold it to Sweden, because it was time to buy own house.
Later i try ´70 Cutlass Conv. but something pull me back with Buicks,so i bought another 1965 rag Electra.
I drove with it about three years ,and i sold Buick again to Sweden. It was time to start building hot rod and that was a reason for selling.
I love ´65 and ´66 full sized Buick. Someday i want own ´65 Wildcat with 4 on the floor crashbox.
But those nailheads leaves good memories and nowdays i have two fenderless hot rods with Nails.

Hey Jerry,
I saw your posts an AACA. How's your car coming along? Dad and I took the 55 to a local cruise in, It sure was fun to drive the Buick around. But I think I'll change out the spark plugs as soon as I get some time. One cylinder seems to be misfiring now and again.

alright, i have a (i think) 1963 Buick Special Skylark. 2 dr hardtop 215 v8 with a dual-path auto trans (that needs work) the whole car has been sitting for approx. 4 years in a orchard. put some marvel oil in the pistons let it sit for 2 day's hand cranked over 2 rotations, put the plugs back in and started it (after putting fuel down the carb it starts then dies) no fuel getting to the fuel pump. took the fuel filter off nothing, put a glass filter in place of it. but after putting fuel in the tank and still not getting any thing (but did see the fuel level rise) i decided to see if the pump was doing any thing so i took the line off and had the old man turn it over. and to no surprise no suction. So, i am planning to put a electric pump in place of it later today. Any suggestions? I am trying to keep the car in as OEM* as i can or at least OEM* appearance. plan on replacing the radio with a after market (but same appearance) digital radio. have to see if i can find one but ill keep the older one around for keep sake. Ohh yea, and one other thing. some time ago the city garbage truck arm malfunctioned after picking up the trash can and dug into the driver side rear wing. is there a way to remove that and fix it? or replace it?
Thanks :D

Alright, so i put a side wall mounted fuel pump for the carb and the engine maintained its ability to run fairly smooth despite missing 1 plug. (due to the helix coil being messed up.) Drove it around and now i have a list of materials to get for it, but i think first i want to figure out how to take off the quarter panels for repair / paint. Any ideas?

Curious, will the 1963 Oldsmobile Cutlass 215 Aluminum V8 heads work on the 215 Buick Heads? and another question is will the

Not sure if I've replied to this thread yet, but here it goes [again?]
Currently just one Buick in the driveway.
1957 Special series 48 (2DR post). Bought it with a SBC under the hood (it will be gone ASAP, I promise :TU: ), 700R4 trans, 12 bolt posi, 3.73 gears, ladder bar suspension.
Car is currently roadworthy and very solid, needing just minor tinkering. Hoping to tackle some of the aesthetics this year. In the end, looking to have a period correct Hotrod look, and if finances eventually allow, a nicely built 455 (maybe turbocharged?) under the hood.
Used to have a few '69 Skylark Customs, but sold them all. Hoping to find a nice '69 GS in the future to add to the stable.

Mine is a '63 Riviera with copious amounts of rust holding her together. The Nailhead aside this is a no power anywhere setup that I hope to remedy (at least the windows). She's still coated in the original white paint (dulled with rust highlights) and a blue interior (worn with rust highlights).
If you haven't caught on to my cynicism, this is a rust bucket... but I love her.
She will remain mostly stock, with the hope of beefing up her stance and updating her brakes. A possible A/C system may also reside in her future.

The "classic" Buick is a 1941 Century 320 cu in straight 8 with the dual carburetors. A true factory "hot rod". A 1970 GS455 convert if more power is needed. A Riviera FI turbo convert (yeah, I know it's a 6) for the final performance Buick, although the Sportwagon is a 400 cu in.
