View Full Version : What is the Year and Model of YOUR Classic Buick

I own a 56 Buick Special 46R, with a 322 Nailhead. Red and White.
There are not very many enthusiests that have worked on older buicks. Thank God a Guy I work with was employed as a Mechanic for 14 years at a Buick Dealership in the 60's. And of course a Service Manual. No Computers, NO Emissions, NO Metric Fasteners. Problems were a lot easier to determine and reair back then. Just basic car stuff, without the other complications.

Three if you count the 1997! (see signature)
The 59 has the 364 2 barrel
71 has the standard 315HP 455.

Hi Howard,
I am also an owner of a 56 Bucik Special 2DR HT. Red with a White Roof in need of Paint. All Origional with 38, 084 documented origional miles. However It does need some body work especially the Rear Quarter Panels. What Problems have YOU experienced concerning YOUR Body Restoration. My 56 has been sitting in storage since 1970. and now I can watch the rust growing day by day. Have YOU experienced Similar Problems? If so, What did YOU do to correct it? OR what recomendations do YOU have. Did YOU have to replace Body Panel Sections? Where did YOU obtain REPLACEMENT parts. Any and All help or Suggestions, no matter how Insignificant will be of GREAT Help.

'nad' ? Oh I see, never mind. :)
My car was subjected to the weather the entire time of its resting. The previous owner didn't know alot about fixiing sheet metal he just relied upon bond. Both of the rear quaters directly below the drip rail where rusted through, also the passenger side rocker panel and the extension frpm the door to the rear wheel well on both sides, the trunck was rusted through and the floor pans were rusted out. Most of the metal replacements were done with peices I fabricated but I plan on using classicfabrications.com for the floor pan. I'm going to do some measurements of a friends 57' Belair trunck to see if the panels are the same, if so I'll order them from Danchuck. As to rust, just remove it and get an encapsulator to help stop it.

I own a 1962 Buick Invicta four door hardtop with the 325hp
4bbl 401, with single exshost. Interior is Fawn cloth/vinyl, and
exterior is a pretty cool two tone finish. Lower color is Cameo
Cream, and the roof color is Arctic White. Just out of curiousity,
how many of the 62 Buick's have you guys seen with that combo?
Because, I have not seen another one with that color combo, in
any model in 62 except mine. Well, talk to you all later.

50 buick 2 door sedanette x code for paint because they didn't offer red in 1950, but the magazines advertised red cars. So someone ordered a red one and paint code "x" Bought the car for $200 in about 93, paid $100 to get titled. Complete and rust- free except hole in floor, drivers feet. Couldn't hardly find a buyer at $350 in 2000, but finally, one "arrived". Sorry, same story with a 48 2 door sedanette I bought in the same deal. The 55 special 2 door sedan, I had to give away, but I took out the rebuilt motor first. Just 4 short years ago.

Hello,
I own a 1956 Buick Special 4 dr sedan, shaved handles, shaved gas door- moved the filler neck behind the taillight, it's on airbags, and the rear doors are suicide. New paint job is coming in the near future.

Tom,
This is actually my first time customizing any kind of car! Until now I have never owned anything that was worth putting the time and money into. I also own a 1983 Mustang GT 5.0 that is my everyday driver. After I am done with the Buick I plan on doing somework to the 5.0. I have to put premium into both cars, and gas is pretty expensive out here in California, just like everything else. Premium is about $2.30 a gallon out here, and those V8 motors just suck it up. The suicide doors were quite a job, reinforcing the doors, fabricating the brackets, and just getting the doors to line up perfectly was quite a task. The bottom of the car, below the stainless trim, is going to be jet black, the middle of the car is going to be bright red like Porshe red or something like that, and the top is going to be black as well. Once the black is down we are going to shoot red metal flake over it, the stock rims behind the hubcaps will have the same black with the red metal flake over it, and only about an inch of the rim will be visible between the hubcap and the white wall of the tire. Tom,
I ran out of room, sorry, so I will continue here. I posted a bunch of new pictures in the wet behind the ears section, so check em out. In the future I plan on completely redoing the interior, the seats the door panels etc.. I plan on doing the seats and door panels in a red and white two tone scheme. The headliner is still original, and is in extremely good condition, just needs to be cleaned. For the dash and the metal trim around the windows I plan on continuing the black with the red metal flake. Maybe put a carpet kit in it or something I don't know yet. I would also like to put a heat and ac unit in it, power windows etc..., there is sure alot of updated technology available today for the classic cars. I also have a line on a 450, out of a newer Buick, I'm not sure of the year, that I would like to drop in there, a new transmission to handle the bigger engine as well, lets keep our fingers crossed!!! Hopefully it all works out. Talk to you later.

Hey Zack;
That's a Real Nice Paint Job on that double nickel Buick of Yours. I like the Apricot Color. True Mid-Fifty's Vintage. I don't know if that color is a 55 only color. In another post someone mentioned the Pink color which was called Tahiti Coral. Another Distinctive Mid-Fifty's color. The color was only offered one year in 1956. I like the Wide Whites they are just the right width. Are Those 80's vintage wire wheel covers? I personally think that they L@@K pretty fine. I like the original optional 40 Spoke Kelsey-Hayes Wire Wheels. They will be the final touch on my project car, but at 2 grand a set it will be a while. I think your wheel set-up is pretty classy treatment and is a nice alternative and is within the budget. Are You Re-Chroming Also?
All in All, I think you project is comming along nicely. :TU: :TU: :3gears: :beer

Tom,
Thank you for the compliments, but I can't take all the credit, I have had alot of help in getting the car to it's current state. I plan on shaving the fuel door, which we have already begun the process, and the gas filler neck will be behind the taillight on the drivers side of the car. To access the gas cap we have engineered some hardware that will enable the whole taillight assembly to pull out and rotate counter clockwise, the gas cap will be located back there somewhere, we are still working out all the details as we go. Now, in order to pull the taillight out in the first place was quite a production on its own, so what we are going to do is lathe a spike out of metal, kind of like how a table leg is made with all the different grooves and variations and depth to it, the spike will look similar to the ones on the tops of the motor cycle helmet, it's hard to explain it. After the spike is made it will be inserted into the taillight were the red reflector is, and it will actually take the place of the reflector, a matching one will be in the same place on the taillight on the pasenger side, and to finish it all off we are going to make a third spike, a little differeent then the other two, and that will be inserted into the key hole on the trunk lid, this spike will actually be functional and it will open the trunk. I will take pictures of the whole setup when it is finished, and post them soon after. Talk to you later.

I only live about 45 minutes away from San Bernardino too, I really wanted to go, there's always next year, my car should be completely done by then, they never are done though, you always find something else to modify or change. In January or February every year there is a big car run in Paso Robles, California, I am about 2-3 hours from there, hopefully you can make it out there, you can check out pics of this years show that they had at the beginning of the year, as well as previous years. Hey, Tom! As far as I can tell, the Apricot color was a '56 color, and also a '57 Buick color. The reason I chose it is that I purchased a right front door for my car from a local junkyard, and it was '56 that wss originally white on the roof, Apricot on the main body, and Laurel green (a metallic color) on the bottom. I loved the Apricot because of it's uniqueness, and my wife liked it too. And my Daughter Sarah's favorite color is pink, and so she liked the color too. I was going to copy the '56 Special's paint job (the one in the salvage yard), but decided to go with black on the roof, and below the spear, to balance the overall effect with something "masculine"--black. I plan on driving the car a lot, as i usually do all my old cars. Yes, those are mid 80's Caprice hubcaps, and I even incorporated the original locking towers. For some reason, with those Coker radial wide whites, I was losing hubcaps. I can't afford the Kelsey-Hayes wheels, so I got as close as I could. I would preferr real wire wheels, truth be known. That Tahiti Coral color is nice, but very similar to a '55 Chevy color, if not the same. I think Chevy called it "Island Coral". Thanks for the compliments! I'll post more pix when she's done!--Zach.

I own a 55 2DR hardtop Super (56R). Two-tone black and white with WWW tires and red wheels. Original 322V-8 engine with Dynaflow transmission.
I bought the car in Philadelphia and drove it home to Arlington, VA. Was running hot so I kept water in the trunk. This summer I rebuilt the engine and replaced everything including rebuilding the carb. Had the cylinders bored 0.030 over. Installed Pertronix ignition and electric choke on carb, recored the radiator and installed electric wiper motor.

The Apricot and Bittersweat colors where introduced in late 56 they were called Fall Colors. The colors may have carried over to 57 as the Dover white on my roof is a 55 color carried over to 56. You can see the difference in the original Apricot color in the door jam and the fender that I believe is Tahiti Coral ( not much ) in this shot durring my paint job.

It is quite interesting to see Your car, being a Tri-Color, in different stages of the Final Finishing Process. It isn't often we see a car in the cacoon stage. we see the before and the after. You provided us with the middle. What really got my attention is that I see a tide tread mark 30 inches to the rear when sanded. Then the car was moved forward, along with the plastic on the seats. Thanks ! The interior is black/ivory (I guess the only choice that did not clash with the coral outside...) Currently, I only have a small picture that a professional photographer took approx. 15 years ago, where you can see the interior (see below - photo is copyrighted !)
We decided to remove all the front sheet-metal, as there was a bit of welding to be done under the battery tray + we needed access to the Power brake unit + we needed access to the steering gear + this, we thought, would give the opportunity to access the converter without pulling the rear end by removing the engine, which again made replacement/seal up of the exhaust manifold easier... :bglasses:
Whilst we are waiting for a rebuilt steering gear to arrive, we are getting to the point, where removal of the windshield and the backglass is indicated... The color on your car isn't Tahiti Coral, at least from the pix you have attached. Look at the attachment below to see Tahiti Coral, on a '56 Century ragtop. The photo (courtesy of another member) is from the post "Show us your classic Buick" that is elsewhere in this "classic Buick" section. Looking at your latest photo, I'm beginning to think it isn't Apricot either--it looks too pink. I noticed you have amber front turn signsl lenses, what is that about?
kindacool
11-04-2004, 05:55 PM
Hi Judd,
white front turn signals are not allowed in Germany and until some 15 years ago, colored bulbs were illegal also. Thus, when the car was imported in 1980, they had to mount some aftermarket turn signal-units from the commercial vehicle line of German light manufacturer HELLA - glad they found some that look and fit almost like the originals and they did not cut the fenders to install some rectangular ones or something perverted like that !
Meanwhile, amber colored bulbs are allowed and she will get the correct units back - without the parking lights that is, 'cause amber colored parking lights -you guessed it: Not allowed around here ! Parking lights will be integrated within the headlights, which had to be converted, too, as sealed-beam-units are not accepted either (Reason: When the glass of a sealed-beam unit cracks, the light will die - when there is a separate bulb inside: No problem !)

Judd---You wanna here a good one? I work on Mercedes Benz automobiles for a living, and luckily, not at the dealer! Why? I thought I had it tough at an independant shop, but I hear through the "technicians grapevine" that '03 and '04 models are nothing but headaches, due to, get this---programming errors! Yup--your car (read:new Mercedes) can be stopped dead in its tracks by programming glitches. All I have heard is it effects mainly stereo, and GPS systems, and security systems, but I'll bet there is potential for it to kill the engine at some point in the system. What would Henry Ford, or better yet, David Buick think about all this technology? I say it's overkill! Now, I'll admit to owning a '93 Buick Century, that I just acquired, and I like it's level of technology. It has a BUICK 3.3 liter V-6, and fuel injection, but not much else. OBD-2 is on all '96 and later cars, thanks to the government! Talk about your diagnostic nightmares! Well, enough of my ranting. Hi Zach,
I heard that in Germany, 25% of all new E-class vehicles had to be towed in due to broken down batteries. The old fashioned lead/acid batteries cannot take it when constantly being sucked half-empty by all this accessory/diagnosis sh.. ! (Lots of 7-BMWs are affected by the same phenomenom - did not even leave the showroom with their original battery after repeatedly having to show what the multimediastuff can do...)
I guess that today's cars will not be able to grow into classics anyway, simply due to the fact that the material all the integrated circuits are made of, starts to disintegrate after 15-20 years - replacement parts will be of the same age by then and reproduction will be difficult, as most car manufacturers only tell their suppliers what the black boxes should be able to do - but have not the slightest idea themselves what it looks like inside...
Have a nice weekend

Regarding the New Throway Cars. After They stopped making full frame cars, You know everything was going to be Trouble. True some of the new Gadgets are convienient. That famous Service Engine Soon Light that comes on and You don't know what it is? Nobody knows untill the car is analyzed by a computer. Hi Tom,
from what I understood they told us, all that electronics was to give better fuel economy - but when you look at a BMW or Mercedes or whatever is comparable to our classics in weight and power, they all come in at 20-25 mpg ! So, where is 50 years of engineer's achievement, where is THE biiig innovation ??? I mean today, where we know that the oil available is getting more or less rare, that gasoline is more or less expensive and that our environment is harmed by our exhaust production, building a car with that kind of gas mileage is something completely different from building it in the 50s, where the gallon cost less than the morning paper and nobody knew about pollution or environmental issues... Should we not know better today ???
Bringing down the weight was another path followed in order to get better fuel economy. That is why our cars feature more and more plastic today and look like you better contact your local Tupper-lady in order to purchase one...
Have a nice weekend

Hey There, Kindacool!
As Usual You are Right on Target!
Manufacturers seem to go to all extremes to make sure that even the most competent independent mechanic will not be able to repair their product. Making it necessary to have the vehicle serviced by the dealer, for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the consumer to increase profits. Then once they have Your car in the shop, then they try to sell you this or that special that you really don't need, and God Forbid, that a Consumer is not Automotive Friendly, They will really be taken for a ride to the Bank.
Example: The Service Engine Soon Light came on on My Regal. I had a family emergency, My Sister of 49 had a massive Heart Attack and Died. The Following Day I had to make a 400 mile trip and the car needed immediate attention. My wife brought the car to the dealer. It turned out to be a bad thermostat and it needed a new serpentine belt. 40 bucks top for parts I could have easily replaced, had I known the problem and about 45 minutes labor. Dealer Bill...............$395.00. That's a pretty fair day's Pay, for one hours worth of work. Then Buick had the nerve to send me a questionaire as to what I thought of the dealers service, and after I blasted them Buick had the gall to ask me why I was so upset? Their ears are Still Ringing. My Son Saw me in Action and Swears it was because of Me that Buick dropped the Regal Name Plate. I can Laugh about it now , but at the time I was REALLY Hot. :af:

Tom, I have been an independant mechanic for 16 years now, and it is very true that the manufacturers are trying to put the independants out of business. The technology is overwhelming at times, and a lot of it is truly unnecessary. Also, the manufacturers are including maintenance on the newer cars, as well as making things non-serviceable. And this jazz about "no tune-up until 100,000 miles" really means that the spark plugs are good for 100K--you still need oil changes and air filters, fuel filters, etc. I guess their hoping t6hat you'll drive the thing 100,000 miles, not service it, and when it blows up, buy another of their "low maintenance" new cars. I call it making cars to be like Bic razors, and pens. Use it up, and throw it away. Let's recycle--our old cars! That will save energy, and natural resources. It takes less energy, etc. to maintain an existing car, than to manufacture a new one! Think about it. ---Zach.

Zach, there were studies in Great Britain that said that 40% of the energy a car will consume in all its life, is already spent into the production of it ! Think about that for a minute and tell me why not using this energy already spent as long as possible i.e. by driving a car as long as possible ? THAT is true friendship with the environment !!!
Not to mention that older cars require more maintenance, which will create thousands and thousands of jobs locally instead of a few thousand accumulated on certain spots where new cars are built...
And, Tom and Zach, regarding service policies of the auto industry: I know of a guy who has Mercedes Van: A bulb in one of the control lights blew and he went into Mercedes-service to have it replaced. Now get yourself a seat: They told him blank those bulbs are not available seperately and he will have to install an all new instrument unit... yes, with tach, speedo, gauges etc - Costs: the equivalent of $600.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLUS labor, of course !!! For a bulb !!!!!! Hello-ho ?????? Anybody home in King-customer's castle ????
(A clever Mercedes dealer would obtain these bulbs aftermarket and install it for the customer, making $100.00 turnover for labor and saved them a customer, would he not ?)
Have a nice weekend and go on a looong ride with your classic...
Michael

This old fart can remember when the auto manufacturers went to 6,000 mile lube schedule from 3,000 mile all they did was change the owners manual. and then they went to lifetime lubrication on suspension parts all they did was eliminate the grease fittings.

It's not only Mercedes doing this! Our own beloved Buick Motors Division is also doing it to some degree. When the dahsboard lights on my wifes 93 Regal heater control all died, I found out that the dealer wanted to sell me a whole new control. If I recall correctly, they quoted $140.00 for the control back in 1997. I managed to find a used control in a junkyard which I got for free after buying some other expensive things, and luckilly the bulbs worked. As they started to die this year I went back to the dealer and this time they sold me the bulbs. Smaller than your fingernail, and $6.00 apiece. Then I took the old control apart and managed to unsolder the old bulbs. Unfortunately the holes closed right in with the liquid solder, so I had to buy a mini drill bit, and a different collett for my dremel ( which really didn't work right) but I drilled out the old solder, and soldered in the new bulbs. :beer
$24.00 for dashboard lights, $1.79 for the drill bit, $2.50 for the collett, and about an hours work.
Meanwhile when the dashboard lights went out on my 56, I made a jumper wire to bypass the rheostat in the headlight switch and they work perfect now, as long as you don't want to dim them that is.

Hi Sandy,
Lucky You! Your son has a '56. :TU: :bglasses: What Model?
For a Gas Tank, You can try Mattson's Rediator 716-826-0357 or Mac's Radiator Service 562-920-1871. Does the car have the Original Gas Tank that needs Repair? For a Good Used Radiator give Ken Reeves at Wheatbelt Buick a call 580-855-2449 or the Buick Bonery 916-381-5271.

I just got my '55 4dr Special out of storage and into my Father-In-Law's garage. We're starting engine to tranny to rear end and so on. I've joined the V8Buick group because I anticipate needing some advice and assistance as we proceed. Anyone out there been through this already with a '55.

I have done the same with my '55 over the past few years. Being a professional auto mechanic helps a little. I can advise you if needed. I rebuilt the Dynaflow myself, mainly because I didn't know who to take it to. And, because I wanted to learn something new. I also did my own paint and body work, glass installation, etc. If you are handy, and have some tools, it should go pretty smoothly. If you don't already have a factory service manual, I recommend buying one. It will be indispensible. Good luck, and keep us posted. - Zach

What are the casting numbers on your heads,do the rods bolt on the piston wrist pins or press on. Is the oil fill in the valley pan or the valve covers?

Thanks for the replies! I have a '55 Shop Manual on CD, but from looking through it, it assumes quite a bit of prior mechanical knowledge (not real detailed). As for casting numbers; I haven't checked and don't have a clue on the rods. The oil fill is an angled tube about 8" long right in front of the carburetor (with a breather cap on it). We've started 'er up and she runs fine! Now we drained the tranny and found that most of the fluid has migrated to the rear end. We're looking for the seals needed before we jump into the big task of dropping the whole rear end to work on it. My manual shows two seals inside the torque tube (where it bolts to the tranny and where the tube bolts to the rear end). We also need seal(s) for the RR axle that shows exterior leakage.
Buickbum
I'd suggest you replace the torque ball seal and the seals on the front pump ( torque converter ) while you have it apart. I guaranty they are or will leak soon if they have been sitting unused.

Thanks Judd, any suggestions on a "one stop shop" for all those seals? Another question... The last two sections of tranny linkage were found disconnected and they seem to be bent in ways they're not supposed to be. The 8" (or so) piece right off the tranny has what appears to be an "after-market" bend in the middle of it and the next piece (that has a length adjuster on it) has a couple of sweeping bends that don't look OEM. I was wondering if someone might have a picture/drawings of the linkage or know of a better way to find the original shape so I can bend these back to normal. Also, the short shaft coming right out of the side of the tranny looks like it has been rewelded and the short 8" piece that goes on it is very sloppy. I'm not sure how this first piece of the linkage is supposed to be mounted to the tranny. -BuickBum

I can't remember where I got mine,. Steele Rubber has the trans and motor mounts and the torque ball seals.

Maybe Cars Inc?

There should be two rods one from shift linkage and one from gas linkage.

Hi Judd,
friend of mine who sealed my Dynaflow had a used front pump seal of a 1959 Cadillac flying around in his garage. We found that this Caddy seal would fit on 1956 Buicks, too. The metal part of it is slightly different from the original Buick seal: It has kind of a brim and my friend suggested that it might be easier to seal it up...
What do you think ?
Best regards

Not sure I haven't had any trouble with the front of my dynaflow since I replaced the seals, it's the torque ball seal that I have trouble with. I'm going to have to replace it for the third time in about 4 years, this time I'll use a 55 torque ball seal( it has boot around the outside that isn't under pressure when you decelerate) maybe it will last with this set up. I don't see anything to keep dirt and grit from destroying the 56 style seal.
Judd

Judd,
my main problem with my Dynaflow was front-end leakage (the converter rivets were the main suspects before I pulled the converter...) and I hope the new front pump seal will solve the problem.
My torque ball has the habit to be oil-tight for years, then let out half a liter of oil and being oil-tight again for years... :Do No:
(I guess, my old lady is becoming incontinent by now..)

Hello Judd,
I'm slowly collecting all the seals I need to fix my tranny fluid leak into the rear end on my '55 Buick.
I've got a few questions you can probably answer before we start turning the wrenches. We've been studying the cut-aways in my manual and are a bit unclear on the following:
1) Is the U-joint inside the torque ball lubricated by the tranny fluid?
2) My drawing shows a boot (rubber?) over the torque ball. I crawled under mine today and there isn't a boot. How necessary is this? Availability?
3) We were looking at our drawing of where the rear end connects to the back end of the propeller shaft. It looks like a spline from the rear end assembly inserts into the back end of the propeller shaft; correct? The drawing shows a "pin" in the spline also. If there is a pin there, how would one remove it or doesn't it hold the rear end from coming loose?
Thanks in advance for your Buick wisdom...
BuickBum
buickbum
Yes on torque ball lube. If your torque ball set up uses a boot it is the rear seal, you may have a later type seal with the rubber ring in the cup over the torque ball like a 56. Remove torque tube bolts at the trans end on the torque ball and the spline slides out.

You need to use the "GoAdvanced " option for a reply or post. Then look at the bottom of the page for the "options " section. There you choose "manage attachments" and follow the screens. It's easy after your first one... Of course this assumes you have a picture in digital format on your hard drive and it is small enough to match the file size limit. If you use a digital camera ( as opposed to a scanner) set your camera on the "small" file size. That ought to be sufficient

Hi, glad to be here. I purchased a 1950 Buick Super model 52. The lady I bought it from did a frame off restoration on it. She was only the second owner and the original owner had it for 44 years. She had it for 11 years, and I've had it for 3 months. It is in heated storage until April 2005. The original owner was from Kenton, Ohio and I live in Wickliffe , Ohio. I have the original plates that were titled to the car when it was bought new in November of 1949. It has a Buick Fireball dynaflash straight 8 (valves in head), and a dynaflow transmission. All restoration was done to original specs except for the hoses, which were braided. The cars runs and drives excellant but I have to do a few things, like get the front end checked out because at high speed when you hit a bump it shimmy's bad and it also has irregular front tire wear. I was told that I might just need an alighnment or maybe it needs fluid in the lever action shocks. Also I have a new speedometer cable to put in and the speedometer needle came off. I have to figure out how to remove the face of the speedometer so I can put it back on......any suggestions? This car is the car I always wanted and I still can't believe that I have it. Can't wait for Spring to get here.

But being into audio hi-fi, I've outfitted it with a stealithily installed sound quality system consisting of a Nakamichi Cd700II, Nak Ec-304 electronic crossover, a/d/s 642ix signa processor, a/d/s Ac-502 remote bass controller, JL 500/1 mono amp, Soundstream Reference 300 amp, (2) Soundstream Reference 10R subs, (2) a/d/s 300is full range speakers, Monster Powerline 2+ sub wire, Audioquest CV-4 full-range wire, Monster powerwire, Dynamat Extreme sound-deadeners, wool carpets, specially-wound, high-output alternator, Optima Yellowtop battery, etc.

My late Fathers 65 Sky-top wagon
Everything still works except the Air-conditioning compressor (the front bearing gave out after 38 years of service!)
Needs the front and rear bumpers dents removed and re-cromed and the inside some TLC
Sadly its an around the town and drive to work vehicle and I just don’t have the time or the shop space to fully take care of it
(At least it’s been garaged 98% of its life)

I have a 1972 Buick Skylark 350-2barrel. It was my great uncles cars before i got it. My friend has a 1960 Lesabre painted two tone red & Black. My brother used to have a 1980 Buick Regal with the whole back frame rusted away. One of my grandpa's had a 69 Wildcat. My other grandpa had a 71 Skylark, 65 Gran Sport, and multiple mid 50's Buicks. I own a 1968 Buick Wildcat 4 door sedan (model 46469), with a 430 motor and a 4 barrel Quadrajet carb. Originally it was black with a blue interior (interior not confirmed yet) but now is a white car with a cream interior. I have not decided whether or not to redo it originally (my inclination is always to do this) or to leave it white and change the interior to the original blue color (it is a cooler color in the summertime).
Have had many things to do to the car since purchasing it for $1500 in March in Dickson - it had been neglected, and I suspicion for twenty-plus years. The car had all sorts of dirt dobber nests in it, some of the electrical equipment took a bit of time before it started working properly (the sending unit took several days of steady driving before it finally came to life, and then some of the lights did not work for awhile either, but are slowly coming back to life), and then some of the tune up and oil changes have also shown the neglect it has been handed for the last several years.
With 120,000 original documented miles, it drives like a new car now, with absolutely no smoke from the tail pipe when it is quietly running. I replaced plugs, plug wires, oil, and other things like hoses, valve cover gaskets (they had cork ones in there that were leaking badly and I have replaced them with rubber ones), headlight switch, and light bulbs.
I am excited about the prospects this car has and will soon (in the next year or two) get it restored professionally when I decide the best route for that event to take place. Always looking for original parts for it - any help appreciated.

I have two classic buicks,
1. 1964 special 2dr sedan, in the process of being readied for paint. Still cannot get the body panels finished. hope to have done by sept. Maroon metallic with a pearl white top is the planned color scheme. It has a 300cid with a poston 30 over cam new lifters, 4bbl intake, edelbrock 500cfm carb, and magnaflow 2 3/4 in dual exhaust.
2. 1954 Special 48D, Lito green with a white roof(original good paint), 264 nailhead (not running), blue interior with only one tear, good chrome and original buick hubcaps. Just bought it. On my way to pick it up first weekend in june. Plans include: swap 264 for 350 in garage, drop 2-3 inches with coil spring kit from kanter, 18 in chromes and good rubber, and a 3 in. flowmaster dual exhaust, maybe with flamethrowers?.
Can't wait to get her home!

Greetings!
I'm new to this forum. I have a Buick Reatta with a full race 3.8 that I did a few years ago. I also built a 385 HP 5.0 liter modified Buick 215 V8 (Rover) with 300 Buick guts. This is planned to go into my 2002 Mazda Miata coupled to a 2002 Cobra five speed. This conversion should net a ZERO weight change in a vehicle that exibits perfect balance on the road-course. The cornering is fantastic, but the power was lacking. Go to: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/291686
I'm working on another Buick 5.0 liter engine for my 1928 Rat Rod Model A Ford. Hope this doesn't disqualify me as a Buick guy.

I own a 1962 Invicta four door hard top. It has the original 401 Nailhead
although it has been rebuilt. It is Cameo Cream and Arctic White with Fawn
cloth/vinyl interior. It has minor rust damage in only a couple of areas which
is very good considering if has been in North/South Dakota and Minnesota
all of its life.
As of right now it is running although it is in need of repair. The driver side
exhaust manifold is leaking, wheather it's a hole or the flange I don't know.
I also need to get a new system bent up, it will probably end up being a dual
system dumped before the rear axle. After that I need to get the leaky carb
fixed. After that I plan on installing a set of Autometer Traditional Chrome
gauges and tach. Then finally, I was contemplating getting a new set of
wheels and tires. I was also contemplating the idea of setting up a ram air
system where the hi beam headlights are. My list is FULL :pp !

Hi everybody,
for all those of you, who are interested, I am planning to take her to German technical inspection for registration this week. :Brow:
Thus, the car is more or less ready to hit the road, although there are still some minor things to do (tuning, adjusting the deck lid etc etc.)
Attached I have some pictures that were taken last Friday, still without the seats. Note how different light brings out a different color on the car !

Hi, I just bought my Century Convertible 1957 a couple of weeks ago in Sweden and I have it in Holland now. Nice forum here and nice cars!
I am planning a lot of restorations this winter, new paint, some rechroming, air bags, engine room detailing and new upholstery. Quite some work, but the winter in northern Europe is loooong! :Brow:

Mine is a '59 Invicta 4 door Hardtop.
Mechanically sound, needs suspension replaced and a little electrical work.
Interior needs some work, along with all new Weatherstripping. (boy is that expensive stuff...easily twice what it costs for my 65 Wildcat!)
Black exterior, 98%
Blue Interior.
This one draws a lot of looks...I LOVE driving it! :beer

Yeh, I got it from a good ole boy off e-bay, It's pretty complete except no eng or trans. It has ps, pw, ac, rear defrost, GS option with posi rear, cornering lamps, orig no vinyl top. I have a power ant switch from another one but no power ant to go with it. How rare is the rear defog, and I need the cover for it. Maybe it is the same one, it was on the north east tip of tenn., can't rember the town. Can't wait to get at it. Is Havertown north of Philly? Nice to talk to you. John

I just bought a '63 Riviera that supposedly has a 425 out of a wildcat in it. It has been parked since '75. I put a new coil and condenser on it and rebuilt the carb. and it sounds sweet. Now to begin the resto. I need to find out if it really does have a 425 in it. It still has the stock 401 carb on it. If anyone can help me out with engine number shoot me a PM.
Thanks, Damien

Hello
You asked what Buick i have.
I have a 1963 Buick Wildcat 2 DR Hardtop Coupe model CPE4647
As you can see on the picture
I live in the Netherlands.
The Buick has been restorated ( not the engine and automatic transmission they were good )
I bought the Buick in 2000 in Belgium and is now driving in the Netherlands
Drove it for 1 year and started the restoration ( i let it done )it took about 3 years and a lot of money, won't do it again
The Last owner in the USA was Westley Duncan from Santa Barbara CA.
The Buick has been shipped to Europe i think in 1991/1992
And the Plate Number was IJL730 , it's a pitty i don't have the orignal plates
I tried to find the last owners address, but not to find.
Now i hope i have you informend you.
If you like, i would send you some more pictures
Greetings Tony from the Netherlands
