Wheels codes: Can anybody decipher?

Considering a set of Buick ralleys They're 15x7, 4.75 bolt pattern.

Code reads:

B 15 x 7 JJ
23 903 M4
7 K 2

Anybody able to decode all this?

Gerry, does the JJ code vary each year for disc brake apps, or is it the same each year?

i have seen J, JJ, JD . i am also told that there
was an F code for non disk brake . i looked at a
set of rims the seller told me were correct for
4 3/4 " bolt and disk brake . i took an old rotor assembly with me . wheels were not disk brake (still had tires on them) and were 5" bolt
pattern & wheels were junk. i checked my shop
manual and it appears gm only produced the disk brake rims in 72 . may also apply to 1970 & up a-body cars . disk brakes were an option thru 72 anyway.
guys with shop manuals for previous years should
be able to help u for the previos years .

I think discs were optional back to '67. Consensus seems that jj means disc application (from looking at other boards too). I still am wondering about all those other numbers, tho!

Wheel Code reads:

B 15 x 7 JJ
23 903 M4
7 K 2

15 x 7 is the size
The code "M4" is the manufacturer and plant code. (Motor Wheels, Plant # 4)
If the number "7" is directly under the "M4" the Date would be the following;(Year, Month, Day)
For this wheel it would probably be 1977, October, 2nd, which would have been for a 1978 car.
This same date code is stamped on the back side of the rim. A set of letters follows it and denotes the offset and type of rim. Your wheels probably say "WP".
I don't know about the 23 903 codes, give me some time.
I will write up an article for the "Build Sheet" that will help decode 15 x 7 rims.

That's a big help. Don't have wheels yet, but will look for the extra codes on the back. Looking forward to what you make of the other numbers. I don't think the "7" was directly under the "M" though, I think it was under the "23".

I still have the original rims (15x7) for my 1971 Stage 1 , if it helps they go like this:

8 28

M4 with a 0 under it

MW (or is it WM????:) ) code on them.

Car was built fifth week of August 1970. Wheels were stamped August 28 (8-28) 1970 (the 0 under the M4).

I don't recall a JJ anywhere but there may have been. I'm going off memory here as the car is in the garage and i'm not getting off my chair right now!!

My codes are physically laid out like this:

7 K 2

Does this mean, since the 2 is under the M4, that they are 1972 wheels?

Inquiring minds want to know!
