I've been thinking about getting my heads machined, ported&polished, and better valves and a good set of roller rockers. i was wonding what kind of hp gains i could expect from each one and what kind of rpm shift it might do?
Thanks

i think hp gains generally depend upon the rest of your setup, don't they? i mean, if your engine is built enough to make your heads restrictive, you're gonna get a bigger gain than with a stock motor, right?

true...i'm thinking about adding the stage 1 intake, super comp. headers, ta212 cam, and a 800cfm edelbrock performer. the electric water pump and electric fans will just free up hp and not really help any if the heads are ported...

Unless you are shooting for 12's, keep the stock valves and rockers, if you are using a 68-69 then maybe go with the 70+ rockers...
Porting/polishing is one of the best things you can do to almost any engine. It benefits everything...
Pick a good cam to go with your setup, and keep the rest of your drive train in mind (rear gears, weight, etc...)
Even ported/polished/balanced, etc... the 350 probably won't be spinning past 6500 rpms so as long as you have a good set of valve springs you shouldn't have any problems with stock parts...
T/A or Poston S-divider intake is a +, have it cleaned up and match ported to the heads. Headers of any kind are a big plus as well. Stock manifolds are ok but headers flow sooo much better and its no secret that exhaust is an issue with Buicks, bigger is better.
Let us know how it goes...
Send the heads to Jim Burek to get them ported...

Thanks for the heads up man! I'm really getting excited about building up my 350. I really am shooting for a low to mid 13 sec combo so i think i can reach it. I was thinking about the roller rockers just becuase i've seen articles dyno them and get a little more hp and i figure they would let the engine last a little longer becuase of the smoother motion, but if you say the stocks are good then that will save me $900 easily.
looks like its time to save up for the intake and head jobs :)

Put that $900 into your heads, cam, and some higher compression pistons and you'll be 13's easy.
The more you do to the heads the more power potential you'll have.. Talk to Jim Burek, he's a GOD at this.

Porting the heads will give you the best bang for the buck. Roller rockers probably are'nt worth it with a relatively mild cam. Headers, cam , intake, good exhaust, and ported heads will pick up some very respectable horsepower. Depending on cam choice, a converter up grade may also be in order here.

how would i be able to get 9.5:1 compression?? could i get my heads shaved a little and just buy 9.5:1 pistons or just i leave the heads alone and get around 10:1 or 10.25:1 pistons???
also Jim, with your street port job (its the $600 one) would you think matching the intake with the heads would do any good or would it not really matter much???
Thanks

Change the pistons, port the heads, put in a cam, If the heads are ported, you should match the intake to the heads. Jim Burek
