how do i identify the year of this 350

i was going to put a 79 350 in my cutlass til we pulled the valve cover and found alot of very grey oil and even more rust. I found another 350 only this was in a 67 special but since the back of engine said 350 and the guy said not original i would like to know what i havew it is a 2 barrel if it like a big block i can figure it out but not sure thanks

I dunno if they changed the posistion of the year on the small blocks at anytime, but my '71 has a 71 stamped I believe on the block before the #1 plug hole. I would go out and look but I doubt the neighbors would appreciate the hood work at midnight.. :grin: HTH
