View Full Version : You've got to hate American rice...

I've got my own story of beating rice. First, let me tell you about my car. It's completely stock with a mild cam. It's a 350 with a 2-barrel carb. It has a spark knock, the timings off and at the time the rocker arms were chattering like crazy due to scored & damaged rocker arm shafts and the car idled like crap. It also needs valve guide seals so it smokes a little. I'm working on getting it running good again. Don't think I don't car about the car and drive it like that on purpose! I'm a college kid with no money! Anyway, I'm on my way back to college after a weekend at home going through Griffin, Georgia when this brand new Chevy Cavalier comes pulling up to me. It's a Z34 or Z24, whatever is the "high-performance" package for the Cavalier and its got Altezza lights, fart can exhaust and the stupid looking wheels. Anyway, 3 guys are in it and they start revving it up next to me at the stop light! I'm like okay so I rev mine up, smoke and all!! The light goes green, my Buick barks the tires and I'm past the guy. The next light suddenly turns red so we're both on the brakes hard. The light turns green and again I blow his doors off. I slow down so he gets up next to me and I floor it again. I was laughing my ass off!! I let him pass me because I didn't want to do more than 75 with the motor clicking like it was. I just can't wait to get this motor running good again so I can really show these ricers who's boss! American rice is just wrong. Why disgrace an American car to try to make it more "ricer-like?" It's beyond me.

Yeah, them ricers think they have hot-S***, when all they have is something slow-and practically useless. I have a little 231 V6 and it literally smokes the hell out of ricers. Especially the stupid sonoma and S-10 ricers. American trucks that have been ruined, and that's exactly what the newer s-10's and sonoma's are. People ruin them. I know that my engine is not in perfect condition, but it can really grab the pavement when you pull it to upper limits. Ricers, will they ever learn? What part of "ricers don't race, they rice" do they not get?

Have you ever heard of the chevy "Xtreme", it's an S-10 with a sporty package:rolleyes: Every-time i see one, i almost fall asleep. kind of bland looking:boring: Import cars do a good enough job of making rice, and when america does it, it doesn't make it any better. make good daily drivers though....maybe.......

American rice is wrong, but it's still American, so it rocks. I got Need For Speed Underground for the Xbox. All ricers, but there was one American car, so I took the American one. It's a Dodge Neon, and boy does it haul. It turned out to be one of the fastest cars in the game, it's faster than my bro's Miata, just don't tell him i said that.

I'm pretty sure it was a syclone or tyclone or something like that. I'll try and find the video again.

You can do donuts in awd cars, you need to get all 4 tires to light and basically drift the car around in a circle. It's hard but i have in person seen someone do it with a typhoon and a subaru wrx and both thoes cars are awd, Looks pretty cool but is wider than a standard donut. I will add both times i have seen it done it was a bit wet out. That guy with the subaru actually got it to spin around in place 1 revolution on his second try but then it grabbed traction and he went drifting around in a circle.

I could provide you with a video of not only Syclone/Typhoon donuts, but also an import AWD doing a donut (STi), all on dry pavement.
When I do donuts in the STi... it starts in big wide circles and comes into spinning around its middle instead of spinning around the front wheel... Syclones and Typhoons do the same.

A Syclone has a viscous transfer case with roughly 35% front 65% rear static torque split. A Syclone will also do a nice burnout with only the rear wheels smoking. My buddy used to do this trick when guys would try to chicken out on races with him. He'd tell them he just put the bodykit on a 2 wheel drive S10 V6. We'd say "listen to the exhaust. Sounds like a 6 right. Now could an AWD Syclone do this?" As soon as the rear tires started spinning the "victims" would be all relieved and ready to race this supposed V6 2WD S10. They could never figure out how a 2WD on radials could drill them out of the hole so bad. HEHE.

I actually had a 99 sonoma s-15 with the 4.3, got bored and stuck a vortech s-trim blower on it along with an ignition upgrade, computer upgrade,a set of gears, and fed it methanol and the little truck became quite the little beast.

Well, if that "4.3" is so hot, then bring it over here to keokuk iowa and i'll have rob(my friends dad) bring his 1970 buick GS 350 4 speed and i'll show that extreme what "speed" is all about!!!:3gears: It's ok though, my 231 is no speed demon, but is very good for what it is, and i can promise you one thing, rob's car is faster than most any truck could be, no matter what.

NOT a rice truck by any standards and may and i say may give that GS350 a run for its money.
MR.BUICK
02-27-2004, 05:56 PM
Well, rob's GS 350 is estimated over 350 horsepower, which he claims "Classic car &auto pro-shop" here in keokuk told him that his engine is pushing out around 365 horsepower, and as i describe it, you can tell it isn't a stock runner! I wish he had a comp. and a scanner so he could show you his GS and his engine and what-not. You would be amazed at how much horsepower it has. I forgot how much torque he said it had, if i can remember right, i know it's over 400. And he's got some fiberglass parts on it to lighten the weight a little. Pictures can say more than words, so i wish i had a scanner, but anyways, i don't think that truck is very cool, besides, read this post, i know if all is true, then that 454 wouldnt have a chance.

Well im not gonna argue here im just gonna say dont matter how fast you make it there will always be somthing out there a little faster or alittle quicker on the get go so to say that one car can out run or out race any truck is kind of an empty promise I mean with money you can make a vehicle as fast as you want besides that cars dont win races drivers do hehehe
gotta edit this one; Except for rice dump all the money you want in the only way a 4 banger can go 0-60 in under 4 seconds is to push the lil bastard off a cliff hehehe:Brow:

Well guys,
Just my 2 cents worth in here, I for one am sick and tired of reading about some peoples mods and all the dyno sheets and other hype and how "fast' thier vehicle is, but they never post a "time from a drag strip'??? all they seem to know is that it is fast????
I would like to bring it into a dimension everybody understands---How Quick is it?? Those into 1/4 mile racing understand the difference between fast and quick,in my book it is always 1/4 mile times. I mean thats what I have built both my cars on. The time slips don't lie. I only race 1/4 mile, thats what it is,to me going from a dead stop to 1320Ft. is drag racing.I don't race from a roll or from 30 MPH. It is from a dead stop usually at a light,.Tires, suspension and driver take it from there.
Thats right I'm a drag racer, first one to the next 1/4 wins! case closed and good night!:Smarty::laugh:

What you said is very true. The only way to really legally say your car is good in a race is to quit talkin and start racin:beer
Unfortunatley, keokuk and no place around here for miles has a drag strip, so you have to do stoplight racing.

I've always posted my time for the Riv, not a blazin fast time but for 4500lbs and a full tank of low test, 16.353 isn't horrible (is it?) My biggest weaknesses is the complete lack of experience, I've been down the track twice, the one wheel peel, and the cheapest set of tires walmart had. My reaction time is horrible, but I figure with some practice, a good set of rubber, a good tank of gas I could get it under 16 and if anybody want to donate, I could go to work on getting a posi as well as an engine rebuild.... that would help.
The worst time I've ever seen was a Ricer bull out a 22 second quarter mile. He never even stopped he just rolled on off the strip and left. It was pretty funny.

Just so you know, 15+ is the average for the econo cars in the 1/4. With mods they can break into the 14's N/A. 16.35 isn't bad for a heavy and old tech car. I'd love to see the look on their faces when you beat them.

Where did you run the Riv at? What is the elevation? My first time out with mmy '71 Riv I ran 16.2 but by the end of the night I ran a best of 15.90. My car is very tired with Turbo mufflers and junk tires. The elevation at the track I run at is just over 900' above sea level. I know with corrected times it drops a little more. I would have to say you are prolly in the ball park for your car. This year I will open up the exhaust and try some carb tuning to see if I can do any better.
