Here is the first cowl tag in the stack of tags I found out of 20 years of scrapped cars.
If you like this stuff like I do, take a run at decoding them and post a reply!
I will tell you that I bought this car at a junkyard here in Minnesota in about 1988 for the dash cluster with tach. It was hit in the front VERY hard. At the time I had a contact at this junkyard that set stuff aside for me before they got picked over.
Ahh the good old days when there were actually junkyards to go to....

This looks like fun....:Brow:
1970 GS 455 hardtop built 3rd week of December 1969 at the Kansas plant. Picture is kinda fuzzy on the paint code, either 26 (Stratomist Blue - a SCO car!!) or 28-Diplomat Blue with a white vinyl top and white bucket interior.
That would have been a beautiful car in either color!

I read it as a 26A. Wow what a car it must have been. RIP in the big boneyard in the sky.

It is actually 28 code Diplomat Blue. The back half of the car was in great shape for a Northern car and was used to restore a 1971 GS coupe that eventually was sold as a nice driver to a guy in Michigan. I still have most of the rest of the bits and pieces on the shelf. I look at the tach every time I drive my 71 GS !
I will post more tags tonight!

Riviera paint codes would be preceded by a 'R' on the cowls.
- so, if it was 26 (stratomist), the paint code on the cowl would state R26 A

185= pearl white
00825 = option codes( I thought)
8= ps
2= ac
5=am/fm stereo

I've seen these 'batch codes' on Freemont and KC cars. Must be something peculiar at these Fisher Body plants.
Sorry, but I don't know how to decipher them.
Freemont cars have two 'sets' of these codes (six digits each, I think) :Do No:

I thought the AM/FM stereo didn't become available in the Buick A-body until '72?

I agree with that Gary. That is the option code though in 70 for am/fm stereo. Mono had another number.
That is why I hedged a bit. Option codes are seen on some Buicks in that location. I'm guessing Marco is correct and this number is something else and the "5" option was in 70 reserved for cars like Rivs and not skylarks.

I'd love to see how these things decode. Can anyone help?
