Anybody know of any kits of the Big Buicks, like Electra's or LeSabre's?

I'd kill to be able to reproduce in scale my '71 LeSabre!

AMTs 62 Electra was out recently. A few years ago in Old Cars weekly I saw a die cast of a 72 Electra four door. I think it was Victory models or something like that. It was one of those small scale cars like 1:43rd that cost $200. I've been trying to find out for sure what it was and who offered it, but I haven't had any luck.

Yowks! $200 for a 1:43 scale? Think I'll do like Yardley and make a pinewood version. I've all but given up on finding an early '70's big 2-door...

Thanks for the info!

The 72 Electra is a metal die cast model, not a plastic kit. The price listed is about 75 British pounds. The website is http://ecom.westernmodels.accessweb.co.uk/

They are distributed in the US by dominion models. They also make a die cast 72 Riviera in 2 colors.

Check out and see if there were any dealer promo models of the years you are interested in. These are the 1/24 ones that were handed out at dealerships for years. Not as detailed as a kit, they won't have opening hoods or engine, but you could kitbash and modify one.

I can't remember specifics, but a google on "dealer promo models" would be a good place to start.

I searched, but only came up with a Riv and the Electra 4-door. Rats...

James,

That Electra four door is as close as it gets. I've never found any two doors your year.

The last plastic promo of a big Buick was a 1970 Wildcat coupe. They are pretty common. The closest you might come is modifying a kit of a 71-76 Caprice. It's a lot of work, but not impossible.

If enough people express interest in something, the guys that make resin kits might do a 71- up Buick. You just have to contact them and see what they can do for you. Start with these guys: http://www.modelhaus.com/ . They're the biggest source for resin kits. A listing of resin model companies is here http://www.scalemodelindex.com/ .

Thanks, I'll ask the resin guys and see what they say.

Also, I didn't think about a chebby model, I'll look for a '71 Impala/Caprice, it's the same body as a LeSabre.

Thanks for the ideas! :TU:
