View Full Version : Any experience with an electric impact?
My compressor is on the weak side and I want to get an impact wrench.
Has anyone ever used an electric one?
Any to avoid?
Any you love?
Any spesifications to look for?
A friend of mine has a Craftsman electric impact that does a good job. We can load his generator into the back of the truck and head off to the junkyard and do some damage with the impact and sawzall!

I have an older craftsman electric impact wrench. I use it for snow tire changes. It works well for my needs, but is not as powerfull as the air impact wrenches I have worked with (I worked a summer mounting and balancing tires at a garage).
The air gun could loosen almost any lug, with the electric I need to sometimes use a breaker bar to loosen the lugs then the gun to remove them. It still has made tire changes much easier.

the craftsman is a good one ...we had one that lasted through about 11 years of dirt track racing...it got ALOT of use and even more abuse. the new one seems to be just a solid as the old one was. make sure you dont use a cheezy extention cord ... they like a strong voltage supply.
i also have a Snap-On half inch drive and 2 snap-on three eights drive cordless impacts.
i use the half inch alot and am pretty happy with its performance. it is great for pulling heads from the boneyard.
the three eighths impacts are ok for light duty.... but i dont think i would buy one again.

i use lectric impacts around the blacktop plant all the time we have a couple 1/2 inch makita's and a 3/4 milwakee we use them because when we get into something there is usally a lot of bolts.when we retighten we will double check with a rachet .

like everyone seemd to be saying go with craftsman or milwakee tools. don't cheat on your tools when it comes to electric.
Good idea
