Carter Quadrajet Decoding Info??

I just put a different carb on my GS - it had a Quadrajet Holley carb on it, and I traded for a GM Quadrajet. I assumed that it was an Rochester, but it says 'Carter' on it - it also says "made for GMC' on it as well. So - I am assuming that this is a carb off a GMC truck, but I am wondering how to decode what year carb this is?? The only number that I could see is 44889 - its on the passenger side rear of the carb. Can anyone here point me to the right direction in identifying this carb??
