Had some fun with a Trans Am today

I was cruising up the highway this afternon having finished work early and wanted to go for a ride. I was doing about 70 or so when this newer white T/A comes buzzing up behind me and cruises by at around 80. I wasn't going to do much until I see as he's going by I get the "My car's better and faster than yours" look from this goober as he goes by. I can't let that one slip!!:grin:

So I immediately start following this guy. He procedes go try and weave through some traffic to lose me. Not happening with this "old" car. I love that poly suspension and big sway bars.

He then goes for it and I see the little puff of smoke as he downshifts and punches it. I immediately climbed up on his rear and never left. He got up to about 125 or so and, thankfully, no faster as I was out of gear and didn't want to go past 6000 rpm.

I never did pass him. Could have in the inital take off, but I did let him know that he surely wasn't going to blow me off. I eventually did motor on by as he was taking a different exit. Wouldn't even look over.

125 wow, What gear are you running. I had a friend that had a GTA in the 90's I was driving a 69 elcamino with a small block 400 HE had the same smug look for about 10 seconds... Phil, I have ladder bays welded out back I was wondering if it made any sense to try to put a rear sway bar on.

I'm running 3.73's right now, so that was all I had. I have a 2.73 rearend that I'm going to have rebuilt in a couple of weeks. That should lower my rpm's by almost 1000 on the highway. Not looking to go any faster, just give my engine a break on the highway. I won't be putting that in until after Quaker.

I don't know about adding a sway bar to your rearend with your welded-in ladder bar setup.

At least you didn't give up on him!:beer It was wise to back off with them kinda gears at higher speeds.

I have 3.42's and was thinking of going with the 200r4 tranny for all around driveability. Hoping to get my convert in the shape and performance range of yours. Good to have dreams I guess, I have to start somewhere...Kevin

Yea, if I'd planned ahead a little better, I would have put in an overdrive tranny. But I'm pretty happy with what I've got and I can't spend another $1500-$2000 for another tranny setup.

2 Words, "Gearvendors Overdrive". Waste the low end rice out of the hole, spank the zo6's and the high-end rice on the top end.

I'm thinking of another two words.....LOTSA MONEY!! For the cost of the overdrive unit I could have 3 or 4 different rearends to swap in and out.
