The latest on my crappy Kepich mufflers........get a load of this

Well, the new exhaust is on the Riv, so we went to the ROA meet in Lancaster, PA..........about 350 miles from where we live. My car sounds like a chebby truck.:af:

So we decided to head to Atlantic City for the day after, about 200 more miles from Lancaster. We get there, I park the car, and we walked the boardwalk for a few hours. When I get back and started the car, I hear this loud noise coming from my left muffler that sounds like a loose fan blade striking the fan shroud. :af:

Now 500 miles from home, my beloved Riviera which I am so proud of sounds like a chebby truck with a broken radiator fan.:af:

I called my credit card company and I have contested the charge I made for this system. I can't believe this incompetant outfit can't even properly weld the baffles in a muffler they sell for top dollar. :af:

By the time we got back home they quieted down a little, but I no longer want this junk on my car and now that I threw away my old system I have no choice but to keep the pipes that did however fit perfectly, but I am going to have to find some better mufflers that fit in there somehow. I wonder if anybody makes stainless glasspacks.......they should sound good if I use them in conjunction with resonators.:Brow:

I plan on setting this place straight Monday, I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.:rant:

I put my dynomax Ultraflows on today........man, those really sound great. Next week I'm replacing the resonators with ultraflows also. I am taking photographs as I go along and I plan on posting them when I'm done.

I also plan on returning the junk I paid top dollar for next week...........now that it is off the car, you can shake it and it sounds like someone left a loose socket inside it.

The pipes are burned brown, but I'm keeping them b/c they fit well and I don't know of any other place who sells stainless 2" pipes to fit a '66 Riv.

Here's a picture of the Ultraflow stainless mufflers and the 16" extensions I had made up to fit them exactly in place of the stock mufflers:

King midas touched the junk mufflers also...........if you look closely, you can see the spot welds beginning to rust where I polished them out.

Next week I'll post pics of the resonators I will make to fit exactly, I haven't started them yet.

In order to get these apart, I had to air chisel them. I tried heating one and it became even tighter: :af:

I just want to add that I WILL get satisfaction from this outfit, even if it means buying a $49 plane ticket to ft. lauderdale to test fit those mufflers in a place where the sun doesn't shine. lol :rant:

Looks like they just used 304 stainless instead of 316L

A big no no when they are supposed to look good for a long time.
Probably explains why you had to chisel the mufflers too.

Yikes, bad story! The Kepich pipes I got were really hard to fit together, then the damn things almost dragged the ground. I replaced with TA mandrel bent system which was excellent to install in comparison-and really sounds terrific. I know you had some special issues (rebel) with the Nailhead 67 car. Dig the magna flows.

I promised I would follow up on this story, so here goes............I got the "ultra flow" resonators together today:Brow: .........man, this car sounds great! Talk about a mellow Nailhead, this thing sounds too good..........and when you get on it, she has this raspy sound that only a true Nailhead can make.

In order to make the short tailpipe bends at the end of the resonators, I went to the local Chebby speed shop and bought a stainless 2" U-bend that I cut in half and then cut to size..........this part very close as is.

I photographed my steps and I will post some pictures, starting with these U-bends. I laid them out next to the resonators to show how they were cut:

I saved the rear brackets from my old tailpipes, good thing because I needed them. Here I welded them to the tailpipes, much easier said than done, as these must be just right or they won't fit good:

Here's how they looked before I installed them.........I confess, I'm not the greatest welder but considering the brackets are regular steel and I'm not set up for welding stainless pipe this will have to do::Dou:

I like the ss "U" bends we can get from Jegs-

Exhaust systems (for me at least) are so satisfying when they are right, but getting them right is LOTS of work! Worth it in the end. I floor the Riv everytime I go under a bridge or into a tunnel just to hear that roar.
