Pump Gas Drags

Ok I go to the news stand and I see the new Hot Rod. Pump gas drags on the cover and I think cool this might be interesting. ANY FRIGGIN BUICKS!!!!!!! one and its Bow tie power.....WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP.... A guy who works with ROUSH RACING (FORD), DRIVIN A REGAL (BUICK), WITH A BOWTIE MOTOR (CHEVY)
I am glad I cancelled my subscription about ten years ago.....Not one BBB in the bunch. The number one car is a 67 Chevelle with a Pat Musi built big block that run an average 9.40 quarter mile over three runs....with 860 naturally aspirated hp with an additional 300 hp of NOS on board..... I have to say I am more impressed than ever with what you guys out there are doing with you BBB's at the drags....

Hey man don't feel so bad about it, they didn't let the Buicks in because they would show up the chevys. I say let the chevy guys have their pump gas drags, I'd rather go to the BOP days at Union Grove any day! We know Buicks are fast, just don't tell the chevy guys or they would be less inclined to drag race us knowing they might get stomped.

I feel the same way. I wouldn't have even paid attention to it if it wasn't for a friend of mine in it.

A friend of mine, Steve Hoch from Tolono, Illinois was in the Pump Gas Drags with his 68 Vette. He made a few changes before he left. One change he made was the ignition, including the MSD box. He ended up mounting the box too close to one of the headers and when it got hot it shut down. He got the car fired but as he was pulling out of a parking lot the chase van passed him, disqualifying him.

He followed the van, and the qualified cars to the track and ran a 9.17, 9.18, 9.17. The winner averaged in the 9.40's on his 3 passes. Steve would have won. Hopefully he gets another shot next year.

Thats rough, I still just wonder what kind of showing the Buicks could have made.....
