Here's a note I received -

Hi Marco,
I wanted to mention to you that I recently bought an assortment of 69, 70, 71, & 72 NOS BB code trans. ID tags, 100 in all.

As I'm sure you know, the original tags were a different anodized color every year. These replacements are all black and appear to be paint instead of anodizing.

I'm assuming these tags were intended for a dealer to install on a replacement transmission case, because they probably had to leave the tag on the original case for warranty.

The person I got them from said he found them in a box with a bunch of surplus nos Buick parts in a GM dealer's obsolete inventory.

If you know of anybody interested I will probably sell them for $10 to $20 each, depending on the year. They won't allow somebody to fake a Stage 1 car, as they are not identical to the original tags.

If you are interested, you will need to prove (to me) that you have an authentic Stage1 before I send the contact information. Sorry, but I don't want to open the door to 'Clonesville'.

I'd be interested in buying one from you,Marco. You certainly know that my Stage 1 is the real deal.

Let me know how much a tag will cost me.

Thanks!

Hi Carl -

I don't have these - someone else does.

I'll forward your info to the person who has them. You can deal with them directly regarding the particulars.

Thanks!

A guy sold one on ebay several months back, which looked like a home-made repro to me. GM NEVER sold those tags, EVER! If they are originals, they were stolen when they walked out of the plant 33 years ago... I DON'T THINK SO!!!:Smarty:

I must agree with Dan. IF GM made replacement tags, why would they make the replacement tags with paint when they already have a supplier for the originals that are annodized? Sounds fishy to me...

I can't tell you.

Who knows when the tags were made?

I know some people have scratched up/scraped up BB trans tags and this was meant to offer a solution.

I'm sure you could get pictures from the seller before purchasing and if you don't like it, don't buy it :)

Again, I'm only the messenger

Hey,if it helps us restore our cars, who cares what happened 34 years ago!!!!!(if an assembly line worker supposedly took these tags)

Please, sell me a tag-I can certainly use it since the paint has worn off mine.

Not trying to give anyone grief.
Personally, I'd MUCH rather have a scraped up original tag...
Just my .02 worth
