RE: Water on Distributor?

Have Any other Buick Enthusiasts noticed? In regard to a Mid-Fiftys Buick. When it is raining or if there is moisture or dew on the Hood. When You open and raise the hood the water funnels at the rear hood opening and pours on to the Distributor Cap. Has Anyone Else had such an Experience. Does Anyone Know any Fix for this problem.
I suppose one could use a plastic bag, but I would imagine that the heat of the motor would melt the plastic, and make a bigger mess.

Tom, my '55 does the same thing. So far (12 years) it has not caused any grief. You could use some clear silicone to seal the wires to the cap and the cap to the dist if you are really concerned. I think I would try just spraying silicon 'lube' on them first as silicon sealer can be miserable to try to get off.

If you open the hood slow and pause just as you start to raise it, you may get the water to run onto the cowl instead of the dist.

WD40 is a water displacement fluid. Spray all the wires and the cap ,and let the water run on it. It wont hurt a thing. The WD40 will make the water run off like water off a ducks back

Hey Guys,

I received Information from another Board that ford makes a Snap-On Rubber Boot that goes over the distributor. It even has a protected vented lip where the Plug Wires go through.
I just thought that I would pass-on this valuable piece of Information.:TU: :TU: :3gears: :beer :grin:
