Help anyone. I finally got all of the linkage hooked up to my car so that it works the way the factory intended, ie. need to put tranny in reverse to remove key from ignition. I thought after doing all of this my reverse lights would be functional but so far nothing. My question is, on the 4 speed cars what exactly turns on the reverse lights. I thought it would be the column spinning but then again now that its in reverse and key can come out I see that as the equivelent of the column being in park position if car was automatic. Since the column was from an automatic car and still has the neutral safety and reverse light switch on it do I have to adjust the switch so that reverse lights come on when shifter is in reverse (column in park), kind of how the switch would be adjusted in an automatic setup so that car starts in park and neutral? Help please, remember this was an auto to 4 speed conversion. Also does this mean that a correctly working 4 speed car will always turn on the reverse lights before one removes the key?

Should be a receptacle on the tranny or shifter for a plug to plug in the back-up lights. You'll have to take the neutral safety switch off and figure out what two wires are for the back-up lights. Run those two wires to the plug (will need lengthened I'm sure). And light em up! EDIT. The back-up lights on your stick car will have NOTHING to do with the column anymore.
nope no receptacle on the new tranny, st10, nor the old tranny muncie m21. Thanks but is there anyone out there with an original 4 speed who really knows their car that can give me a specific answer.

You need to replace the auto trans neutral/back up safety switch with the correct 4-speed back up light switch.

OK anyone have this part that they want to sell, I have cash burning a hole in my wallet, lol. Can I modify / adjust my old piece or do I strictly need the new piece. please help, ready to put car on road, want everything functioning perfectly. Also I'm looking at the slots in the pic you sent and it seems the switch will have a similar type of adjustment.

Before the column key, ala '68 the switch for the BU lights was on the shifter/trans, I know Dave Hemker scrambled to get that switch off the '70 GS350 4-speed, he and I parted out, and I think even the '70 was part of the shifter, email Dave (silverbullet@centurytel.net)

Modified a auto tran N/S switch to work on his 4-speed car. I'm not sure how well it worked. He was very happy when I sold him the extra NOS switch that I had. I paid about $ 75.00 each for the last two that BUICK FRAM had.

Ok my 4 speed reverse light switch came in the mail and I installed it and got my reverse lights to work, that is after I found the break in the wiring harness. Of course that left me without the neutral safety switch but I ran wires from here to the clutch start switch and the motor cranked over with the clutch pedal depressed, woopie once again. Now my question is, the plug for the automatic neutral safety switch is different from the connection on the clutch start switch. Is there a special connector harness to join the two or did the factory use a total different under dash harness with the appropriate connector? I'm just jumping the connection with a wire but I want to keep everything looking factory. Please enlighten me with words and or pictures.
