ABS front inner fenders

OPG is selling 68-72 Chevelle front inner fenders made from ABS plastic (black) for $125/pair. I doubt these would be correct(other than not being steel), but would these work on a Skylark? Might save some weight! :Brow:

I'm sure a problem would be how they would bolt up to the outer fender as they are different.

I don't know for sure, but man - Don't they realize that if they sold BOTH SIDES, that the sales would increase exponentially??? I'd switch out mine, but I am not going to go with one side metal and the other ABS.

I know what you mean.I purchased one years ago,thinking the othrer side would become available,that never happend.A fellow board member needed one,so I shipped it to him,it was a nice piece...but like you said....why not the other side? :Do No: :puzzled:

I checked into this a few days ago, a local company does sheet molding (I think thats what he called it) of plastic, would be really nice and would look some what correct, molded in black and very light. The catch is each die would be about $25k...... :eek2: I'd have no problem going ahead with this if someone will front the $50,000 to get started... :rolleyes:

I am sure some of you know how to do this, but I will explain for those who don't. Basically, a 400 degree sheet of ABS is draped over a tool (usually cast aluminum) and vaccum is applied. this sucks out all the air and forms the tool. I have considerd doing this with bumpers, and then hoods and fenders. The biggest problem is size for the machine and its alot harder to make attachment points that are invisible and won't break off cause even plastic welding won't hold up to normal driving abuses. This is what I do, I design products that are thermoformed. I start out with a car and design replacement kickpanels to hold component speakers. a small tool for a kickpanel will cost $700-$2000. think of a fender. YOUCH

I have tried the Chevelle plastic inner fenders from OPGI on my GS and they're not even close. You would have REALLY hack them up to fit, so I returned them. I figured it was worth a shot.

I'm that fellow board member that Ernie shipped his plastic Poston inner fender to. It looks really nice, I just haven't put it in yet. I have to move some stuff around under the hood first.

Wish they made both sides too.It would look pretty cool on the front end of my 70 after I put a set of glass fenders on.

Pat, Only cost about $10-$15 to ship,and that was because of size.Not heavy at all.

The guys which I think are local only did a mold for the right side whose lip is under the battery case where the damage most often is the worst.

Well that makes sense and is what I figured, but if they did the other side it would certianly be more attractive... if it was painted and detailed could you tell it was plastic???
