1972 Skylark/GS taillight rubbers finally showed up today after a long trip to my sister first and finally here. I gotta tell you I am very, very impressed with these pieces. They look great, fit very snug into the bumper even without the nuts, and look new....

I would say they are worth every penny IMHO.

Thank you Kent!!!! :beer

Tim, does Kent have anymore to sell and how much are they? I have a n.o.s. set in boxes and after seeing the reproduction front strips they are nicer then the ones GM made. Please let me know about this and posts some pixs!! AL.

I'm sure he does.....I have one picture (attached)...please note bumper is old but straight and will be the one getting re-chromed....also note I put the taillight in place and it fit very well. I have a used set of rubbers here and these things are a dead match in size, thickness, look, etc (except no rust and all studs intact, plus they just look new). Quality piece for sure.

Dust and stuff is from my hands and the flash makes everything very harsh.

His e-mail is: kentb@brproducts.com

They are not cheap, but I feel they were worth the money, and I had to pay exchange and duty and taxes on em too!!!

He also makes the front 72 pieces, the front bumper guard rubbers and will be making he rear "U" shaped one as discussed in another thread in this forum..

Retail is 299.00 US a set...he does give a break with group discounts so might want to set something up there....like I said not cheap but sometimes parts are worth it. These things are in plain view all the time and I have yet to see a really nice used set.

How much for the front strip set??

Al,

I'm with you...I have an NOS set I bought last year, right before the holidays, just about the time an NOS set went for over $450.00 on eBay..

Hmmmm.....what to do, what to do.... :Do No:

Brett,
Kent quoted me a price of $175 for the front strips and $295 for the rear surrounds.
$450 if I bought both together. Great quality, worth every penny! :ball:

Bill,

Thanks for the info....I think I might have to take a serious look into both the front strips and the backs and just eBay the 1 NOS front piece I have along with the 2 rears...

From the pics you've posted and the feedback I've read, it looks like Kent's doing some quality work.... :TU:

:TU: :TU: Glad to see you get the strips, you will see they fit great. When you install them put the corner studs of the strips in first and don't tighten ant fastener untill all three strips are installed and adjusted with no gaps and even. :Smarty: AL.

I would agree, by your pics those rear ones are excellent looking, and who couldn't use a set. :TU:

Update: A few days ago I got an E-mail from Kent stating that he has all the molds for the 72's finished, so he has the front bumper strips, the rear tail light surrounds and the rear "U" shaped rubber available. Basically, everything for the 72's he has. He also mentioned he has a couple of things for the 71's, but I'm not sure what rubber pieces those got. Anyway, I'm definitely buying the front bumper strips, rear tail light surrounds and the rear "U" shaped rubber for a 72. Gotta have em!

There is a guy selling them for him on Ebay. When he first listed the tailite rubbers, the price was $159. Obviously a mistake. I figured someone else was making them and the price good so I did a Buy it Now. Turns out they were Kents and I got a smokin deal !!!! They went to $359 shortly after.....

As you can tell I know nothing about the 72 bumpers but I am looking at a car that apparantly has a 71 bumper on the rear. I assume to be correct I have to replace the entire bumper with a 72 and buy the rubber also. :Do No: John

Yeah 71 bumper will fit and visually looks the same but did not have the rubber around the taillights.72 bumper also has the "Buick" emblem in the middle, since it is no longer on the trunklid under the GS emblem as 71. Taillights in 72 had black paint on edges, 71 was silver. Personally I think 71 style looks better but thats just my opinion.

They acutally did make a tailight lens in 72 that had the silver outlining around the red portion of the lens.

Yes you are correct, the skylark custom had them I beleive, I have a NOS set here and debating whether to paint or keep original. I just assumed he meant GS.

In 72 there was a bumper without the rubber offered . Look at the options my car has bumper protective strips as an option . The parts manual shows it and a member here has a NOS one . But if you have the front rubber I would imagine you got the rear with it unless someone made a mistake on the line .

Some options were mandatory. I have heard some of the very early cars may have been missing it as they used up 71 bumpers, but my understanding was all 72 were supposed to have them. The optional bumper rubber may have been for the bumperette??

Who knows, stranger things have happened...
