Who needs vice grips????

I wanted to pass on a recent purchase and report: I just bought the Craftsman "Bolt-Out Damaged Bolt/Nut Remover Set" part number 52160. It works on nut/bolt sizes 3/8th to 5/8th/16mm. I just used it to remove the rusted out bolts on a set of brake cylinders. The regular socket just rounded off. I put the remover on and it grapped the bolt tightly and it came right out. :)
The set is on sale thru the Craftsman Club for $17.99 (2 bucks off) until Dec 11th. :TU:

I bought a single bolt out to use on my '91 Cutlass engine. I was so impressed, I purchased the entire set. On the other hand, those vice grips Sears sells are crap.

VICE GRIPS ARE THE BEST! that is why the tool is known by the brand name vice grips not by the tool name (locking pliers) all others suck

Similar thing, Ron. Had an old 77 Rabbit. Broke the shifter off in my hand speed shifting into 2d gear one night. Pulled to the side of the road and slapped the vice grips on what was left of the shifter and away we went. Drove it like that for 2 years. When I traded it in, the mechanic got royally pi$$ed when I reached in and grabbed my vice grips back. Said, "These are mine! Go get your own shifter!" :rant: :rant: :rant:

I guess I really never worried about someone stealing that POS though.

Thanks for the heads up on the Craftsman bolt out.I was wondering if these actually worked.Now i know what i'll be buying with the cash i get for X-mass. :grin:
That might save some skin on my knuckles :)
Has anyone tried the Craftsman damaged screw out remover kit yet?

I used the craftsman left handed drill bit set on a bleeder screw. Worked great because it was the exact right size. 'Course Sears won't call them a drill bit but the screw extrators. I also tried their version of an easy out...straight cuts on a hardened steel shaft. Same problem through...broke off the small one in the hole!
Note that they are also selling the larger set of "Bolt-Out Damaged Bolt/Nut Remover Set" with more sizes.

Vice grips are great. Sometimes you have to use another pair of vice grips to tighten down another pair, but they'll budge anything if need be!

Sears just puts their name on products.

I have a set of the craftsman reverse drill bits, and I keep them in my box at work, they've gotten me out of a couple of jams, but they've failed me a few times as well. I'm planning on looking into the bolt remover set, you guys have sold me on them, thanks for including the P/N in the original post. And for my Craftsman locking pliers, they work just fine. The only problem I have with them is the release lever tends to smash my fingers when I cam it to release and the tool pops loose, easily solved by forcing it with whatever tool is closest. My "Vise Grip" pliers don't try to hurt me, leaving me free to hurt myself in more foolish, creative ways...............Hey! Thanks Irwin!............Tom
