55 dynaflow help

O.k. so i bought this 55 special and it seemed to run and drive well. After a couple hundred miles i noticed that the tranny(?) would make low growling noise at around 35 mph or below. That noise would go away with a slight acceleration or completely letting off the gas. At highway speeds usually around 55-60 mph, a loud Whining or squeeling noise comes from the tranny(?) unless i decelerate or keep a slight constant pressure on the gas pedal. The noise is so loud my wife can here it in our van when she followed me.
Is it just the trans pump or does the whole trans need to be redone. I was also thinking it could be the rearend, but i'm not sure if the noise would flow through the torque tube like that. I'm new to Buicks and the torque tube setup, so i'm learning as i go. Any ideas???????
I'm also looking for a decent transshop in the S. Wisconsin or N. Illinois area.

By the way, what did all you guys who swapped for late model trannys do with your old dynaflows. Any of them still in good driveable condition??????
Just a thought but cash is tight so buying a good used one might be an idea!!!

Somebody makes an adapter to mount a 700r4 to a nailhead. I saw the article in Street Rodder (i think) about a year ago. If you go to a modern trans, you will probably have to change rear ends, doing away with the enclosed driveshat and stuff. Sorry I'm not more help, but I bet some one will be able to give you more info.

My '51 super started making the same noise about 2 weeks ago. At first it was subtle, I thought it was the new generator. (maybe a bad rebuild?) then it got progressively worse and yesterday I thought it sounded as though it were coming from the driveshaft, rear wheels, or dynaflow tranny. It sounds like something needs to be oiled .. like a friction noise. maybe something is loose in the rear wheel cylinder? Blown Bearing? I'm not leaking or burning any fluids, and my oil and tranny fluids smell fine. nothing gritty or watery. This morning I'd also remembered that my water pump was acting up and thought maybe just maybe it could be that. but the noise doesnt seem to be coming from the engine bay.. I could be wrong. Its hard to pinpoint exactly where the noice is coming from.

Any thoughts?

It is hard to pinpoint these noises. As far as mine is concerned, i've all but pinpointed it to the dynaflow. After different acceleration and deceleration tests, i've found that when i put it in nuetral the sound goes away(led me to believe maybe not tranny) however; when i revved the engine while coasting in nuetral, the grinding, whining sign came back and again went away. Just by the way it sounds, i've got a trans problem..... Any good used Dynaflows out there. There are no tranny shop within an hour of me that want to touch mine....

Just trying to be optimistic but it could be as simple as a main bearing or drive shaft problem.. try not to think of it as a major problem.. I am bringing it to my friends transmission shop on Monday so we can both take a look at it. He doesnt know much about Dynaflows but he does work on old time transmissions. I'm hoping we can both put our heads together and figure this out. I'll let you know what I find out.
