Here I've got everything taken out of the car.. next up body comes off the frame... I'm sending the frame to get sandblasted and then I'm going to paint it. Also have been fixing minor rust around the windows, roof and windshield.. otherwise this is a solid car....

Here is a picture of the two NOS 455's (still in shrink wrap) I bought from a friend in AZ. One of them is going in the wagon. I'm putting a 400 Auto behind it. While I have the wagon apart I'm going to change a few things. Going back with bucket seats w/full consol, floor shift, I"m going to keep the green interior and paint the exterior silver. I'm shaving the chrome spears on the side of it also.

Unfortunately I have to go out of town with my job for the next couple months so the wagon is on hold for now... but I'll be back! :Brow:

My parents had one like that, which is where I got my taste for these wagons. The exterior of that one was Verde Green, which is very dark, almost black; a killer good-looking combo with the two-tone green interior.

If you paint yours that color, I'll probably be chasing you around when you're done.

Looked for a green one, but ended up with a red one (see below).

Welcome to the club!

Best,
Steve.

Steve,
Your wagon looks very nice. Flame Red is a tough looking color, as you can see(above in first pic.) thats the color of my 65 gs. I just hope my wagon looks as good as yours when I'm thru with it. And you've got me thinking about Verde Green now :puzzled:
Thanks for the pic of yours. Don.

Thanks! Yours will look just as good or better, no doubt!

If you went with Verde Green, I think you'd be very happy. If you do, though, keep the wide satin side-spears, they look great against a dark color. Also, the ventiports are on the spears, you'll lose them if the spears come off.

Best,
Steve.

I have some very nice vent ports off a 65 gs. I'm going to put in place of the spears. My plan is to build a gran sport wagon.

The only A body two door wagon I know of in the mid 60s was the 64 and 65 Chevrolet Chevelles.

I hadn't thought about painting mine red until I saw yours. I don't know if it would look as good, however, without the spear.

The color is 1965 flame red.,I don't think the spears will hurt the look of your car. Don.

My 66 doesn't have spears, and I don't think I have ever seen a 66 with them.

Don,
Nice to see things are coming along. I didn't know you had a couple of NOS 455's laying around. What year are they? Or are they some kind of generic version that were assembled after 76 and are meant to replace any year? I've never seen an NOS motor before. Maybe I'll get to see one in Kentucky this year. What do you say?

Yep, second set of manifolds, w/ factory torque specs, seems to have solved it, although the car didn't get a heck of a lot of action afterward. We'll just have to see what it sounds like this spring.

Best,
Steve.

Joe,
Good to hear from you. The wagon project was coming along good, then I had to go out of town with my work, I'm close to Knoxville TN. I'll be here another 6 to 8 weeks. I'll be out of town most of the time till june so the wagon won't be in Kentucky this May but it'll be there in 06. The nos 455s are genuine 1976 buick I bought from a friend in Tempe AZ. Look forward to seeing you in May. :TU:
