View Full Version : Parking brake cable removal at firewall

I had a hard time figuring out how to get the parking brake cable to come free from the firewall. As can be seen in the picture below, there are three little fingers that snap in place as you insert the cable assy through the firewall. I had needle nose visegrips and a long screw driver and could not get the fingers compressed to come back through the firewall. I spent about 20 minutes screwing around and getting nowhere.

I got a six point 9/16 deep socket and placed it over the bracket. I rotated the socket until I felt the most resistance, knowing I was compressing the three fingers the most.

Going back outside, I gave the cable a sharp yank and it came free immediately, with the socket falling off into the driver's foot well.

I know this isn't a big deal, but it was a nuisance that I found an easy way to work around. I hope this helps somebody someday...

ive always used a small hose clamp and it works good too :TU:

Theres actually a tool made for that :Smarty: I got mine fron Snap On but Lisle and K-D make the same one. It presses all the tines in on those pesky clips. Works like a charm
