really suprised at this...

when i took the motor apart to get it ready to go to the shop I was suprised to see that the capscrew rods that I had have no doweling inside to hold the cap firmly in place - prevents walking of the cap.

I said to myself that there had to be aftermarket ones available thru the usual sources. turns out thats a negative

has anybody pursued the angle of getting bolts made by a machine shop -- or have any other ideas?

If you look closely at the rods, the bolt holes have a short counter-bored section before the threads start...The cap-screw bolts have an area above the threads that locate and center the cap on the rod to keep them from walking...A bigger hole to hold a dowel will only weaken the rod at that point...The stock capscrew rods are a fairly strong design and much better than the early stud/nut design that was used...

Hope that explains that a little bit...
