1955 Buick Special Windshield

Hi everyone new member, old car! I am in desperate search of a new front windshield for my 55 Buick Special. Anyone anything?

I don't know if you have tried this route yet, but have you called your local automotive glass company?

I called a local shop on a long shot for a windshield for a 64 Buick, and they could actually get me one. I thought I would have to go through Pilkington or some other expensive way.

Granted, a 55 is much older than a 64, but because most likely your windshield interchanges with plenty of others, there is hope.

I bought a drivers side window and a 1/4 spear for my 55 Buick Super from Phillips Classic Auto Glass in Poplar Bluff, MO.

I liked the fact that shipping to me was under $50, and both pieces of glass were less than $120. They carry windshields as well and they match the factory tint, which is about a 20% shade of green.

Hi Rudy, I'm also looking for a 55 Special windshield and have found the following sources that say they can get them:

American Restorations, 201.843.3567, $515 plus shipping $96 to KS

City Glass & Upholstery, 253.272.1366, $500 plus shipping $150 to KS from Denver

Auto City Classic, 1.800.828.2212, $399 plus Shipping $85 and will ship same day as ordered

I also know where there is a good used windshield in a 55 Century 4dr in KS that could be bought. (Special and Century are interchangeable in many parts to include windshield.) I could get it for $140 if I help cut it out but don't know what it would cost anyone else. Then there would be the shipping concern which I have no idea what that would be. I haven't ordered one yet but will be soon. If you aren't satisfied with any of the above you might look at Hemmings. They have a lot of ads for glass providers. I just haven't called them all.

I can also tell you that there are no new sources for a rear window for that 55. No one makes them anymore.

If Buicks are like the 55-57 Chevys, 2 and 4 door hardtop windshields interchange, and 2 and 4 door sedans interchange, but you can't put a sedan windshield in a hardtop and vise-versa. Also, I bet a Century and a Special w/s are the same, and what about Oldsmobiles?
