32 Buick Pickup

I recently come across what is supposed to be a 32 Buick Pickup. The truck is probably one of the most complete and good original condition 30s car I have ever seen. The body is straight and no rust cancer anywhere to be found. The doors and hood hinges opened without even a creak. All peices are there and the engine altough not running at the time I looked at it looked like it had been running only months ago. Hardly any dust, cob webs and no mice nest. Even the interior and upholstery looked better than most cars from the 60s. The pickup is supposed to be a special order from the factory. I wanted it so bad for a hotrod, but in this case I can't see making a hotrod out of something with such historical value and in original condition. It is beautiful with the long hood and low and chopped looking top. Even the wood wheels are in pretty good shape. If anyone is interested I will see if it is still for sale. Has anyone else got more information on these Buick pickups? If no one else buys it I may not be able to resist the temptation to turn it into a rod and then collectors will be out to tar and feather me again. :spank:

I've never heard of one past the 20's. Sounds pretty cool, 32 Buicks are nice looking.

I will look around and find the guys number. The pickup is in Yuma and I saw it a month ago. I should have his number here somewhere.

I didn't have my camera that weekend. :spank: The guy selling was supposed to send me a flyer with pictures but he must have sold it because I never got it. It is actually a 32 Buick 4 door sedan that is sent out for conversion by buick. The cut out the section from behind the front door the behind the rear door and reweld the back body on to make the back of the cab and then they add on a box and fenders. I don't think they even touched the frame. Buick made trucks in the 20s but this is the only one I have see from the 30s. It looked like a 32 Ford pickup only with the long hood, lower roof line, and alot more style.

Was it based on the Caballero(station wagon) or it was a mod car ? It look like a 55-57 year range

Board member buick195646r did some research about the Buick Bison a few years ago:

This is a Sharp Custom: A Buick Century 2 Door With a Wagon Tail and box. The Piano Hinged Tailgate is positively the same body treatment that exists on a 56 wagon as well as the interior, only with the roof removed. A very clean Customized Modification. The rear window of this camino type vehicle was adapted from a wagons rear tailgate glass. Whoever customized this vehicle did an exceptional job integrating the wagon floorspace in a 2 door body. The 2 vehicles have the same dimensions and 122 inch wheelbase."

We spoke about this sometime back and perhaps on the other board. Buick did make a pickup, an actual pickup in the early 30's. Very rare and they were built for what is now called DFG or the Forestry Dept. Cannot remember which at this point. There were about 50 produced as I recall being told, all were green with black fenders and surrounding the pickup bed and on top was black iron railing. I saw one of these, along with my Dad, perhaps 40 years ago and still remember it well. An elderly man had one as well as an original Huppmobile, and several vintage items. Now this was some 40 years ago so it's highly doubtful that any of these have survived. I believe there were one or two other individuals on the buickperformance board that recalled such a vehicle and verified my labored memory.

I saw the old Holland license plate in the front end of the Bison , so I thought that this was an old picture .

For the car itself , can't it be a conversion made by GM when the car was new ? GM has allready made it sometimes in those years . like the Chevy El Morocco 56-57 :Do No:

Buick also made some pickups in 1940. They re on a Roadmaster chassis with all the cab and box custom built. They were used to deliver parts at some of the bigger dealers, and there was one in the Flint area just a couple of years ago.

It wasn't Eindhoven, but a little village called Helden.
Those cars are long gone now.

what happened to them. i couldnt remeber the exact location. its kinda a hazy ya know what i mean :grin: but i also remeber the big michal jackson statue at one macdonalds also

The cars were sold back to the company were they were bought from, it was really a shame to see those two perfectly restored cars rotting away through the years...... :ball:

The one with the Michael Jackson statue is MacDonalds in the village of Best, between Eindhoven and 's Hertogenbosch, just a few clicks down the road from where board member 75Riv lives.
