well all of my 4 - 1964 Skylarks have parts from 64-81 various GM cars on them so there is lots you can do to make them handle and work a LOT better

I just inherited this car. convertable, 300 standard engine, fairly good shape. I guess I'm now a buick guy, love the looks of it. My idea is to fully restore it. question I'm looking at right now is do I want to keep it original or go for performance. I like the idea of putting whatever makes it handle and work better, but will putting non-stock items on it devalue it. If these cars aren't in high demand then keeping them stock may not be a big concern. Any thoughts to help me out on my decision. By the way, never restored a car before, all my cars in the past have been tools, I've never owned one just for the joy of it.
Really looking forward to this,
thanks

Thats what is nice all the parts you can use would be a direct bolt in and if you want to return to stock just replace with the stock ones!!!!! The current trend is to make a car so it is a pleasure to drive and also SAFER. The look can be stock but work better

thats what I do to my cars and I enjoy them a lot more that way

Ken,
Cool!!
That's what I'm gonna do then. Look stock, drive & run better and safe. Since you've had alot of experience with buicks is there anything you would suggest off the top of your head? Like I said I'm a babe in the woods with this and I've learned not to recreate the wheel if I don't have to.

Bob, head on over to
www.buickperformance.com
and look in the tech info section.....there are lots of ideas for improving your '64 with parts from later models.
I'd recommend:
4 bbl intake and carb (use 1964 alum intake only)
dual exhaust (local shop)
1-1/4" front swaybar from a 1970's Firebird Trans am or Z-28
Fast-ratio power steering box
15x7 Buick mags from mid '80 Regal
Front disk brake setup from 70-72 (aftermarket kits start at $600)

Anybody else have some ideas?
