View Full Version : Suggestion for handling deleted posts and members

I'd like to suggest a method for handling deleted posts, banned members, and those who get added to my "ignore list" by board admins.
Rather than the affected posts/persons "disappearing", can the affected posts please be replaced by a "placeholder" post that states WTF is going on?
I spent 30 minutes trying to find a post by Yardley, only to learn that he's apparently on everybody's "ignore list", and so none of his posts show up. I was beginning to think the board had been hacked again, and that we'd lost info again. Deleted posts also seem to screw me up when I'm searching for old info, if there were placeholders there, at least I wouldn't suspect early-onset senility.
Aside from the above reasons, I also think it would be best to keep everybody informed as to what is going on with the board. Transparency, and all that... :Smarty:

actually, i think yardley must have been purged, posts and all.
when you have someone on your 'ignore' list there IS a blank placeholder that shows up in the thread, with a button allowing you the option to read the post.
i haven't seen any of those and yardley isn't physically part of my 'ignore' list ...

I'm with bobkmando here. Yardley isn't on my ignore list - so his absence must be system-wide.

Don't know what the scoop is with Yardley. I can look him up as a Moderator, and I see he shows as a Registered (normal) user, and last visited the board this morning at 6:45 am. I don't see any indication that he's been removed from the board for any reason. James, why do you think he's on everyone's Ignore List?

Me either, which is what bothers me...

If you do a username search on "Yardley", you'll get all the threads with his posts in them, but if you go into a thread and look, all his posts are being skipped over - check out the post #'s, like in the thread about his picnic (http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=74560), his posts # 2, 7, and 11 aren't showing. I've never used the board's "ignore list" function before (I just scroll on past the people I think are knuckleheads...), so I figured that was how the ignore list worked, by hiding the posts. I've noted that in the past, when somebody gets banned, their posts disappear, and the post counts get reset, so there's no indication that they were ever there unless somebody has quoted them.
Your comment about not seeing "any indication that he's been removed from the board for any reason" hits my nail right on the head - I'd just appreciate knowing what's going on - it bothers me when people just "disappear"...that's all.
On the other hand, maybe the board HAS been hacked, and more posts are missing... :Do No:  ???

Danie', did you start that thread yourself? Or someone else? I searched your posts, and don't see the thread anywhere either.

Never mind ... I think I figured it out. Tufbuick started the tread. Seems Ron and two others (Yard's being one of them) Got put in time out for a week. So maybe that is why I can't get into the tread. At least I like to think I'm a smart blond that figured it out on my own

I think you're right, Ron started that thread. Maybe it will be back come Sunday night.

Had to get the car to the track of a pic... not that you can see much of the car in this one... but I thought it went with the Pit Crew Title..or Pit B!tch as my new shirt says
Damn those men running off at the mouth  If they are going to run off at the mouth they have to have a way to get out of trouble like batting their eyes and smiling or flashing a little skin,,, Men

Awesome  Where did you get your shirt... I wouldn't mind having one for my wife.
I might have to clone out the word "Pit" but I would still like to have one.

Okay, that could explain it. I had done a similar search and turned up nothing.

I got the shirt made at the Nats. In the swap section there was a photo trailer that put your photo of your car on shirts. They had the saying that said "Buick Chic" or something like that. I asked them if I could get the words changed and they said yep! So they had a pic of me putting Rod in the water, I got that on the front and "Pit B!tch" on the back. I think it turned out pretty good. Only thing is it's to nice to wear to the track :(

So...any thoughts on "FYI placeholders" for "timeout" posts?

you can look but I don't think you will find it. Yard, Ron and Rick got carried away in the 4 bolt block thread. Not sure what about for sure, but it didn't go over well. But they are back now... it's all water under the bridge.
