Starter wires

Hi every one:cool:
I'm putting a quick disconnect wire harness in my 72 skylark and I have run into a dallima. There are two red wires going to the main terminal on the solenoid that have fusable links. I want to cut these out of the harness due to the fact that the insalation for about an inch on both sides is gone and the wires are showing. I don't want a problem whith these grounding out on the frame. I would like to put in-line fuses in their place. Does any one have any sugestions? What is the draw on these wires? Will 30 amp fuses work or do I need some thing else?

You should be able to buy a replacement fusible link at any good parts store. A 30 amp fuse will not handle the load:mad:

I rerouted the wires to a small fuseblock (from a Corolla) I mounted near the battery.

Joe, I used 30 amp fuses. What would you suggest instead (before my luck runs out)?

If the fuse block takes the old style glass fuse, you can purchase heavy duty units that look like little relays. These will probably work as they are like overloads. The fusible link that was on the car fed the whole system,so if you do not turn everything on at once ,you may be OK:Brow: :Brow:
