flywheel thickness ?

hey guys , i just got me a flywheel off evilbay said from a '73 gs 455 . its a little rusty and i hit it with a sanding disc to clean it up some and found cracks . i'm going to bead blast it tomorrow and see the extent of the cracks . yet as if i would get it re-surfaced , what would be the minimum thickness and from where should i measure ? the flywheel surface measures with disc size of 11" , i believe its a buick 455 flywheel , but i didnt find any numbers . thanks-steve

Look at the outer edge. There is a bevel. You can surface down to where the bevel disappears.

there is adefinantly a bevel around the outer edge and around the center . so hopefully this one is still original and can take a turning . thanks

I used to surface flywheels all day long. As mentioned, generally once the bevel is gone, the flywheel is garbage. Always, always get it re-surfaced. The heat cracks are nothing to worry about. Normal stuff.
