Well, I had and still have the 37 Amp alternator from my 72 GS and its number is 1100693 and the connection is on the back. BUT, I replaced it when it went bad with a 55 Amp alternator out of an air conditioned SKylark(my GS in non air) and the connector is on top. I dont know if any of these alternators are original because the 37 amp was on the car when I bought it and the 55 amp is a u/pullit deal from a yard.
Its too dark and rainy to verify the number on the 55 amp unit, so I cant help on that part of the question at this time.
