Looking for a place to get a 1962 Skylark Speedometer cable. I have a 215 V8 Dual path auto tranny. My speedometer needle bounces all over the place. Dont really know if its the cable gears or the actual speedometer itself. Will replace the entire system if I can.

Since the speedometer still works all you probably need to do is pull the cable off the speedometer and pull the inner cable out of the housing. Clean and grease and reinstall.

The bouncy needle should be steady after greasing the cable.

Disconnect the cable from either behind the dash or from the transmission end. the end of the cable should be sticking out to where you can just grasp it with your hand and pull it from the housing. clean it with mineral spirits and then in one hand get about a tablespoon of vaselene petrolium jelly. then feed the cable back into the housing wiping the vaselene all over the cable as it goes in. The cable should slide easily back into the housing and seat into the speedometer head at the other end. or vice versa if you took it loose from inside the car.
that is all there is to it unless the cable is broke then you have to buy a replacement and swage the little sq. tip onto the cable after cutting it to the same length as the old one. either way not hard to do. just be sure to lube as you reassemble. :TU:
