Brad,
Some Balancers have a second slot that corresponds to 30*. It would be about 1 3/4" clockwise around the balancer looking from the front. This makes power timing the engine very easy without using a dial back timing light. You rev the engine until the second mark stops moving up and then move the distributor until your 30* mark lines up with one of the marks on the timing tab. (2* would give you 32* total, 4* 34* ect.) Hope that helps.

I have the same type of balancer on my 350 motor. I bought it brand new from GM quite a few years back. So its a genuine Buick part, but I still dont know why it has that extra mark on it. When I found "true" TDC when degreeing my cam, I marked the balancer to correspond with the "late style" timing tab "0" mark. Hope this helps. Mark

Breaker bar and socket. Put the socket on the crank bolt, and lay the end of the breaker bar against the floor, ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. Crank the engine with the starter motor. That will break the bolt lose. Remove the bolt, pull the balancer off.
