For new wheels or rechromed wheels or just nice wheels - how do you wax the chrome with out getting any on the black paint? Or do you wax the whole wheel black paint and all?
And what wax do you use?
Thanks - Bill

...the paint needs wax (or "space age polymers") more than the chrome. You don't want to use a "combo" polish/wax -- the dust will get in the grooves around the center cap and be very difficult to get out. In fact I use the "wading" type metal polishes to get the chrome parts in A1 shape mostly so that there is no dust (like you get from the liquid or simichrome type polish.
If you do use a product like Zaino it does make brake dust and rain spots a lot easier to "dust off", though with the grit from gravel and such that often get on wheels you can't expect the Zaino to last as long on the wheels as it does on the body. They claim that with proper application the polymers in Zaino will "layer" on top of each other and lead to a more protective finish.
THe Zaino stuff has a mirror finish:

After cleaning, (I also like the Never-Dull wadding for chrome) I spray my tires and rally wheels with "No Touch", then take a cloth to them and wipe off any excess. Unlike every other tire cleaner I've found, it doesn't collect dust or turn the rubber brown.
It wipes off the chrome, and it makes the painted surfaces shine with a nice gloss, but not too much.

Yeah, it does, doesn't it? Hmm...I meant...well, ok, there's not a good way...
I also use it on just about everything under the hood. Leaves a nice semi-gloss shine on metal, and keeps hoses/wires clean and supple. They even have a website: http://www.permatex.com/notouch/newsite/tire-care-products.html

:Dou: I was not aware that i needed to wax my chrome wheels...that would explain why mine are looking rough now. Another question.. whats the best way to get white letter tyres clean???? When i scrub them the dirt just seems to move about and not come off, leaving streaks across the letters. :Do No:
