I am looking to find the production # for the 73 GS455 I am looking at. Not how meny where produced but the accual VIN production #. The car I am looking at was built in 9/72 so it might be very early in production. I would like to find out , If I can how early it was made. I am planing on using the Sloan Museum research for the most complete info I can. but until then.

Hi Tim -

The cowl (3rd row) contains a two digit number and a letter. It is the Fisher body final assembly date. The two digit number is the month (08 = August, 09 = September, etc...) and the character is for the week (A = 1st week, B = 2nd week, etc...)

Also, the VIN serial number (if Flint built), should look something like 1XXXXX, where XXXXX is the number of cars built thus far. For example, if the VIN is 100235, the car is the 235th car built at Flint for that model year (all models).

The 455 T motor was not available in the GS or regular Century, it was a U(dual exhaust) or K on a 350-4 Dual exhaust on a Century GS
The T motor was single exhaust and was standard on the Electra, Estate Wagon, and optional on Centurion and LeSabre as the 350-4 was standard on the Centurion, and 350-2 was standard on the LeSabre, Century and Regal. The U was also standard on the Riviera and optional on the Century, Regal, Centurion and Electra.
The V was the Stage 1 in a Century GS, 728 made and the W was the Stage 1 in a Riviera rated 10HP higher (270 instead 260) than in the GS.
Hope that's not too confusing, some day when I have lots of time I may have to scan some of this info and post on the web page.

Marco,

I was trying to find a breakdown on how many 73 Stage 1's were made.

I have known about a 73 model Stage 1 car, automatic with the factory sunroof ("SunCoupe") and lots of options.

Do you have or know where I can find these numbers please?

Thanks,

John Fritz
