Getting some new rear bumper fillers for my 56.
None there now. Should they be black or painted to match car?
Thanks in advance.

If you mean the piece between the trunk/lower panel and the bumper, I believe that it should be painted body color.
Painting it blackmay make the bumper stand out more though. I don't know how this would look. Mine IS painted black TO MATCH the body color, I got lucky :TU:

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. You are lucky with black.
If I had some matching paint, which I don't, I think I would paint it.
But since it hardly shows unless you get right on top of it and look down
will probably leave it black rubber. Guess I'll lose some concours points!
Duplicolor doesn't make anything close to my Cadet Blue.

if u really wanted to match it.. u can always go down to the local paint supplier (auto paint preferably) and have them match ur car color and custom up a spray can. its kinda costly, but u know.. if u want it to match
just a thought

Thanks, I have done that before and it is expensive to get a spray version.
Might look into a pint though in a can. Since it doesn't show hardly at all,
could foam brush it to look pretty good. All I need now is the weather to warm up.
Guess you don't have that problem where you live.
By the way, got my new rear bumper fillers this week but they were just
two straight 4 inch wide pieces of rubber. The picture in the catalog showed
two pieces with a curve at the ends to go around the tail light area.
Had to send them back for exchange. Once in a while they screw up,
at least that's what I hope! It may be that a matching rubber piece isn't
available anymore and they expect me to fabricate it. If so I could go buy
a piece of rubber a lot cheaper. We'll see what happens. Had good luck
with this particular company before.

Hey Rogbo,
Just curious! Where were you able to get a Rear Bumper Filler Panel? :Do No:
By the way you can get spray paint in cans from OEM Paints :TU:

Tom,
Sent them back so hoping somebody other than who I talked to on the phone will
handle it. Purchased from Cars, Inc. in N.J. whom I've used before OK.
I asked this guy if the ones shown in the picture were from a 55 or what and I was
so dumfounded by his answer "I'd have to go back and look" like he couldn't
do that, I just decided to return them and see what happens. Next time I'll ask to talk
to his supervisor maybe. Maybe they don't actually have one that is ready made to fit
with holes and everything like the catalog shows. I can make one if I have to.
When I hear from them I'll let you know.

Hey Roger,
Thanks' for the timely response. I appreciate your punctuality.
This is the first that I have heard of someone have that particular body part.
It is rather unusual.
Sometimes Gary Bauer "The Rocker King" has some unusual body parts in stock.
I'm lQQking for a "Tulip Panel" which is the sheetmetal part that goes between the trunk and the rear window (backlight).
Water go under and behind those 2 rear window moldings and caused some havic.
Thank's for the Valued Information :TU:

Cars Inc. just gave me a refund, I guess they don't have anything that looks like
the picture in their catalog. Bet they won't revise their catalog either!
Not a big deal, I guess, with these 50s cars you always wonder if what you ordered
is going to work. So I'll just fabricate my own out of some rubber stock and paint it.
Live and learn.
