Michel, I ran 235/60 14's on 14x6 rims a couple years ago, and they work fine. You can probably put 245's on that rim, but it does exceed tire mfgr's guidelines, in fact I think the 235's even exceed those guidelines for a 6" rim.

Hey! I found a reply to my own post by checking out the archives. This spec sheet from BFG is pretty good. Essentially I can get away doing these tire sizes. They recommend 6 .5 inch for the 235...but I have seen some posts where guys mentionned that they put them on and all was ok...now if only I can get those with a red line! :Brow:

Michel, I swapped to 15x7 chrome rims, and now have BFG Radial TA's on all 4 corners, 245/15/60's. Except when it goes to the local track this summer, with MT ET Streets out back. :) You should have no trouble with 235's on your 14x6 rims. I drove that combo a couple years, and on a 1400 mile trip too.

i wouldn't put the 245's on those 6" rims. those guide lines are actually correct. if it is only a show piece then it won't matter but if you drive it it will feel "mushy" when turning or changing lanes on the highway. the sidewalls have to have so much space between them or the tire will appear "mushroomed" on the rim and there goes your handling. i put 235's on a 6" rim and i wasn't happy with the way it rode, wish i went with 225-70-14's instead. you have to pay attention to the recommendations, i didn't before and i wasn't happy. the tires are also bfg's, not some "cheapy " raised white letter brand. good luck.

I agree with Paul, don't put 245's on 14x6 rims. 235's aren't bad though, didn't feel mushy on my car, not much bulge at the sidewall.

Keep in mind that the 245 is the cross section width designation in millimeters . This tire being 4" wider than the rim would cause uneven wear and poor handling . The corss section should never be more than 2 inches wider than the rim IMHO and the manufacturer's recomendations . 250MM is just a hair under 10"

Michel, you can safely put 235/60's on 6" rims. Guys are running that wide of a tire on 14x6 rims all the time. I doubt those rims were widened.

if u are talking 245x60 series tires on 6" rims, do NOT do it. u may break the bead ring of the tire & the sidewall will fail due to the over flexing. the bfg recommendations are right on the mark!
