So I took my dash out this weekend to fix a bulb and wound up restoring the whole dash!!o No: I allready had the steel dash itself painted but never took the pot metal pieces apart until now. I must say it came out sweet!!! I used the GN trim paint for the black and polished all the chrome. Also used Blue Magic Plastic cleaner and scratch remover. It looks pretty much brand new. Not bad for 42 yr old plastic!! Any ways Now I need your help if you look at the pic of A/C controls I need to re-write the words: OFF .. HI and FAN. Any suggestions?? They have to be pin straight or it will look like crap!!!! HELP Thanks Joe.:3gears:
I used Eastwood Arget Wheel paint for the silver. Also after I painted the Argent silver I used 0000 Steel wool and smoothed it all out real nice.
Hi Joe; I see you don't have a clock. I have a non working one. There is a guy on evil bay that fixes them for 39.95 I think. Puts in quartz movements. I was gonna get it fixed and re-sell it on e-bay, but it's been sitting. PM me your address and it's yours for shipping charges. Always glad to help another 65 Sky owner out. PONCH Nice looking dash. I've had a hard time with my fan lettering too!! I re-did Three different bezels and used the best one.
I don't think I can do it perfectly with a toothpick. Can probably get it pretty good but it has to be perfect of the whole dash will look like crap. Thanks Joe
It's in a box in my garage. I will be installing it later on. I have a radio delete coming from another board member as a matter of fact. The original am radio weighs a ton!!!!:eek2:
Hi Joe; The clock is in the mail. (Pun NOT intended). You should get it today or tomorrow. The Fix in guy has a listing on e-bay right now. Look under 1965 Buick. He want's 39 to fix it. Not a bad deal. 5 for a clock and 39 to get it fixed. Sure looks better than a block off plate. PONCH
It looks like the letters are slightly recessed. This could make it much easier. If you can take the clear plastic off you should find a stamped metal peice underneath with the lettering recessed in it. If you take some white model paint and thin it down to somewhere between milk and water you can use a toothpick or fine brush to pick up the paint and dot it into the letters. Make sure the piece is sitting level when you do this. The paint should flow out and fill the letter. You'll need to work quickly and dot in several places so that it all flows and sets in one puddle. If you don't like the results a rag with a little solvent will clean it all out. The paint will self level and make your lines nice and straight. Good Luck. John
Thanks Ponch I received it today and it looks awsome. Going to go find that repair guy. Thanks again:beer
John you took the thought right out of my head. Thats the only way it can be done. Maybe i'll try at a later date. Too many other things going on. I got my whole front end today so i'll be busy with that.
