Duane, Do you have any info on the mouse turds that Jason mentioned? I read that the only way to determine if a Chevy mouse turd was from the factory was to taste it o No: because the reproductions along with having square ends also had a different taste uzzled: I wonder if the same applies to the Buick mouse turds
DONT YOU KNOW BUICK PUT THE PENNY THERE TO BALANCE THE CAR SO IT GOT 50/50 WEIGHT DISTBUITION ON THE TIRES. Guess they figured if its good enough for Big Ben, why not a big Buick p  I've found 2 old coffee cups stashed under the tar paper in a 72 buick....it was cool finding it, it was bad cause it rotted the floor out :dou:. Larry
I think that goes with the french fries...its a type of "happy meal" I think. Didn't Buick come out with that or was it Chevy... "Repro Happy Meals"
Mike Trom, Sorry but I am not up on the finer points of mouse turds, I generally deal with steel. But when I see you at the BPG Nats remind me to tell you about the Georgia piss ant episode.:blast: Duane
If anyones interested, I do have a couple of "service replacement" pennies I will be putting up on Ebay. But,because they are service replacements, they have a later date. I also have a couple of NOS in the box 71-72 GM mouse turds for the heater cores. Listed as: Gr 8.854 71-72 All "A" (less A/C) pt #3011429 turd, mouse 2 requ'd When was the last time you saw these babies NOS in the box? And before you say anything Duane, I know just because they're NOS doesnt make them correct.
Board rules require a price and location for parts for sale. Also, I am just curious (not really in the market for those right now), but can you look in the turd box and make sure they still have the tapered ends? I read on a Chevy board that some people were repackaging more the common (and, as they say, better-performing) square-ended turds into Buick part number boxes and then just offering the excuse that "they must have been stored on their end" or some such excuse to justify the lack of taper. I don't want anyone to get any kind of turd they do not expect, and paid for, do you?
I dug through my parts stash and found an NOS set of mouse turds :bglasses: They also have the round ends :Brow: Don't fall for the "stored on their end, square turd excuse" because they were not boxed when they were soft, Buick made sure they were completely dry and hard before having them boxed unlike the lower quality Chevy turds:Smarty: Taste is the only true way to tell if you have NOS turds..
Watch out for the "Made In Tiawan" reproductions. They won't pass judging and you will be deducted points. Just a warning from experience.
Paola given the rarity with which you post, i've got to nominate you for one of the best S/N members in the history of the board.
mmmmmmmmm...good question..I'll refer this one to Mike "Mighty Mouse" Trom whose wisdom on the Mouse Turd is immeasurable. I do believe he has received the "Golden Mouse Turd Award".:bla:
Duane - I'm pretty sure the Flint cars got Philadelphia pennies. I also think the penny date tracks with the model year, not the calendar year. FWIW - K
I think Nailhead was right. I didnt mean to confuse the penny issue with the heater core turds. I think I should of posted this info in the heating and A/C forum. my apologies And Frank, I would like to get $50 for the turds. Includes shipping to the lower 48. And rest assured, they are correct Buick style turds with the 30 degree taper.
One of my documented cars came with the factory correct penny option, but the car has been a strip only car for quite a number of years now, so I am searching for the ultra rare factory "Penny Delete Panel". Stupid us threw out the original and mint penny long ago and without the delete panel I'm afraid we will get dinged some points at the next show. ou: We were young and didnt realize at the time the importance of hanging onto the original stuff like BB transmissions, SS blocks, penny options, 2016 distribs, and original grills. Also wanted to ask the board here if the partially consumed "weed joint" we found under the back seat during restoration was indeed original. Best we could tell it was of the Jamaican Redbud variety and included the original and ever elusive gator clip attachment. o No:
I would think the penny would track to the model year minus one (for example, 70 models would get 69 pennies). Buick always introduced their new models in the previous year while the mint always seemed to debut their new models later in the current year. Unless Buick had an advance supply agreement with the mint, they would have to stock previous year pennies until the mint released the new models. I wonder how many times they ordered too many and they had to use old stock until they ran out. Maybe they just disposed of the old stock. After all, they probably only cost a penny apiece unless they got a volume discount.
That "weed joint" came out in the 60's and 70's and was an accessory in the ashtray. The ever elsuive and very rare option of the "psychedelic sugar cube" was sometimes found in the glove compartment. The individual factories (especially California) had their own suppliers for these items as they were outsourced. The purse hook accessory had a dual use...purses and the "gator clip".
So your telling me the empty Hash Oil Vials found in the ashtray of the 70 Riv Im parting should have been a weed joint. ou: (I had to ask someone what they were) Bruce
Alright, lets clarify things a bit. The weed joint was not put in on the assembly line. Only one in every 10 cars got one. They were installed by the guy who drives the cars out of the factory to the rail cars. In late 72 some had the weed joint and some had the funny little folded piece of paper and a short straw. Also, some framingham cars did in fact recieve the penny. My framingham car had a penny, heads up denver mint penny, to be exact. Also, 2 dimes were used to wedge the seat brackets for the front (bench seat cars only, the framingham bucket seat cars got nickels-philly mint)
