Knocking down the 350HO is a pretty tall order but anything could be possible if you can hook that SBB torque.

Don't think that 12.80 was the 350HO, but Sawruk's tickling the 12's now. If he put that Custom S on a diet, he'd be there real quick.

Is that Buick a 4 speed?

Sorry Don, I didn't get the message, so I just got done knocking her lights out.
    Give me a call.

Gotcha. Didn't realize Jeff got it down that far. What does that car weigh with him in it?

Tom, I've got a question for ya . . . I thought the 315hp engine was in the GS 350? So why is your car a Skylark?

How much does it weigh? With a nearly empty fuel tank it weighs around 3,858 Lbs with me in it...that's why it's going on a diet this summer. Hopefully the Custom S will lose 40-50 Lbs by September :Brow:

Mine went up a lot when I started driving instead of Rob.

3909 with me in it lasat time I weighed it (Stanton). Have lost 20# since then (myself), so that's headed in the right direction now. Only took me 64 years to get that turned around.

So how you going to shave the weight? A/C? Power Steering? Power Brakes? plexiglas windows? Aluminum bumpers? hollow sway bars? Helium in the tires?

The hot high compression Buick 350 4 bbl motor was standard in a GS 350 car and was the top most powerful engine that could also be ordered in regular Skylark line.
So yes ,a non GS Skylark with 315 horse Buick 350 4 bbl engine is rare and very much a sleeper.
I found a 70 Skylark conv with this engine a couple years ago, nice car, and still with original owner.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

315 HP SP 350 was also available in a Sportwagon. Just for info.

Strange that engine would have overlap with 2+ models. Normally I would think the GS 350 engine would be proprietary to the GS 350. This was true for the previous two years, right?

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

PP and RP 350s (280 HP) were available for all lines of Skylark including Wagons in '68 & '69 respectively.

This engine was optional in Skylarks and Skylark Sport wagons because buyers needed a 4bbl V8 engine option for the guy who was towing a trailer back in the day.
Buick viewed it real GS 455 and GS Stage 1 cars as Gladiator Performance intermediate so that is why you could not 455 in regular Skylark.
Speaking of Blurry line, look at what Pontiac built in 70-72.Tempest's Lemans's, GT-37's and Lemans GT's Lemans Wagons with Pontiac 400's to 455 HO's.
This in part can be attributed that all Pontiac V8's are physically the same.
Buick 350's are a true small Block and Buick 455's are true Bigblocks thus each require different engine mounts ,alternator PS brackets ,steering shafts est.
Pontiac was not restricted, a 455 HO used everthing a Pontiac 350 did making optional engine choices easy.

I am switching over to manual steering (-30 Lbs), manual brakes (-9 Lbs) and plain steel wheels (-10 Lbs). Time to get wrenching!

Use G body wheels in place of the originals, they're quite a bit lighter. 14 or 15, 6 or 7 inch width....and the best part is they're cheap! That's of prime importance to the cheap bastards that own and drive Oldsmobiles.

Use the aluminum top plate for the manual box. I can build you one, by the way ........
