Cause alot of them (not all) are "one hit wonders" "flash in the pans" here today, gone tomorrow type groups/astists. Another example......The Georgia Satelites had a big hit...around 1990 with "keep your hands to yourself". Kinda of a cool tune but didn't back it up with anything.
Can't forget Shooting Star , Billy Squire , The Knack , Cheap Trick, Triumph .Then there are those bands from Chicago ......Off Broadway USA and The Kind . Stitcher
Three Dog Night was good,Yard's. They did "Easy to Be Hard" ,which to me was one of their best. Some others I thought of- Guiffria "Call to Your Heart"; Styx "Suite Madame Blue"-"Double Life"; Heart "How Can I Refuse"-"Love Alive";Autograph "Turn Up the Radio";Jefferson Starship again "No Way Out"-"Sorry Me,Sorry You"; The Cars "It's All I Can Do"-"Bye,Bye Love".
"The Day the Earth Caught Fire" by City Boy, "Got the Time", Joe Jackson, "Uneasy Rider", Charlie Daniels Band, "Litany", Guadalcanal Diary, Need more....? Check out Youtube, I could spend hours there! Adam.
Donnie Iris!!!!!!! My "King Cool" tape must have 50K plays on it!!!!!!! Besides that, I'm hopelessly lost in the 80s. A few months ago I picked up two dirt cheap CDs, The best of The Cars, and The Outfield. I know the Cars still get some play, but it seems The Outfield is largely forgotten.
Hey what "Rock In Roll Party In The Streets" by Axe or "I'm Leaving You" by Taxxi? Both awesome-Got'em both on vinyl & CD-lol I hear them on the radio once in a blue moon.
Robin Trower...too rolling stoned, day of the eagle zz Top the early stuff Rickey Nelson...garden party
Kidnapper, Jewel and the Rubies Smokey Places, The Corsairs Broken Heart, The Fiestas Down in Mexico , The Coasters
Real oldies? How 'bout Johnny Burnette-"Dreamin'","Little Boy Sad","You're Sixteen,You're Beatiful". The great Gene Pitney-"Town Without Pity","Half Heaven,Half Heartache","I Must Be Seeing Things". Johnny Tillitson "Without You". Joanie Sommers "Jonny Get Angry". Billy Fury "I Will". Dave Brubeck "Take Five" . Man,there's a lot of good music!
I was at the NY State Fair a couple of weeks ago and saw Cheap Trick, Heart and Journey. I also saw the Spinners and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Talk about a flash back. But Heart was the best. They had so many great songs I had forgotten they sung and Nancy Wilson can sing like crazy. Her encore version of Going to California was awesome.
Never thought I'd see Guadalcanal Diary mentioned in the same paragraph as Charlie Daniels. Good call on Guadalcanal. Loved them back in the late 80's but you're right, haven't thought of them in a long time.
Alan, I remember when this song first hit the airwaves. Stupid DJ's of the day would NOT say who the artist was. I had to go to the local record store, and make a fool of myself trying to tell them what record I wanted. Good thing was that they knew exactly what I wanted, as it was a big seller at the time. It still sound great after all these years. They're from Toronto, IIRC
Here's a few of my more obscure faves: Black Sabbath - Megolomaniac Uriah Heep - The Wizard, and Stealin' The Trashmen - Surfin' Bird Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - Tears of a Clown Sammy Hagar - Marchin to Mars Faith no More - Epic Rainbow (Richie Blackmore's band) - Stargazer and many others............. Anybody still listen to bubble gum music from the 60's and early 70's??
Anyone remember "Life is just a Fantasy" by Aldo Nova? One of my favorites from the early 80's. Or how about "Gone, Gone, Gone" by Chillowack?
