Does anyone know if the clutch/neutral safety switch wiring harness extension is available? It has two 12 gage purple wires and is approx. 12-15" long. It has a two spaded female plug with the terminals stacked (top to bottom) on the end that plugs into the dash harness, and a two spaded female plug with the terminals side by side on the other end that plugs into the clutch/neutral safety switch. I will post a picture of what it looks like as soon as my buddy sends it to me. If it's not available, does anyone want to sell one? ray:
I think this is what you are looking for James. Not my picture but I saved it awhile back for reference.
Hi Todd, Yes, that is what I need. Thanks for the pic. If anyone happens to have a spare laying around I could use it. Another board member gave me a tip on who to contact to see if they can provide me with one.
James that is the correct one. I do have one but plan to keep it as I am back working on my 70 GS 455 4spd. :TU:
Paul, Do you have a part #? I looked on the website and called and they do not list one for Buicks. I gave them the Olds 442 part # and it only measures 7" long so I don't know if it will reach. They are researching the Buick application so I will post the info when they provide it to me. Phil, Great news. :TU: Do you need your other parts back or were they spares?
The part I was referring to is the Olds Part. They will make you a custom one with any length you need.
Hi I am looking for the reverse wire that is connected on the muncie 4 speed trans for my 71 gs350. The wire has one connector on each end about 6-8" long. George
Phil, I appreciate you measuring the length of your original. Apparently I was way off on my estimate from the dash harness to the clutch pedal switch. Another board member measured his the best he could while it was still in the car and came up with about 36". I thought for sure that he measured wrong and that it couldn't possibly be that long, but M&H called me back today after they found the original drawings and said it was 42" long.
James it is long for sure. I was unable to get it last night but tonight I will make sure I get it. I will give you the actual lenghth of the original to insure all parties are accurate.:beer
James The wire is exactly 42" long from the top of the connector plug on the harness to the bottom where it connects to the neutral safety switch.
After reading this thread I went and checked to find this wire on my car. It sure is VERY long and mine is even wrapped up and held in place with a zip tie. I may have done that when I first got the car as I was stepping on the wire as it hung down. Is it really needed to be that long??
Rob. I really dont know. I had the harness removed from the car I am working on. I does not seem like you would need it to be that long but it is.
Thanks for the measurement, Phil. :TU: It really doesn't need to be that long, and when M&H told me 44", I didn't believe them but I guess they were close. They will make me one and make it shorter if I want, so my problem is solved. In case anyone else is interested, they are about $29 and will take 3-4 weeks to produce.
The one thing that no one has addressed is where it connects. The safety switch is on the Pedal support.Buick evidently felt the need to run it through the upper dash area. The backup lite sw from 1969 to 72 was operated by the Backup switch that replaces the Auto B/U and Neutral Safety Sw.That means the std dash harness has to plug in where the auto switch is.That means the Clutch sw plugged into the same area. It's not a hugh amount of distance across that area. The routing is why the long jumper.By the way.M&H have factory blueprints and build the harnesses per schematic.I've been a dealer for 25 years and they really try to make it a concours level harness experience, everytime.
I know this is an old thread but... I bought I nice stored assembled setup for my car. Had the both pedals and bracket etc.. When I went to move my neutral start switch bracket over to the new clutch pedal the mounting hole does not line up the same. Its about half the hole off. The hole in the new pedal is slightly more toward the center of the shaft. The part number on my NSS bracket is 1231315. Is the pedal I got from a different year or different make? I was just going to drill out the small bracket until I can get the screw in it to mount it. I am working on a 71 GS 4spd
